Thanks for the comments and critiques guys :)

Let me try and update you and answer some questions:

1. Why not get 4Gb?
Good question! :) Well my initial reaction was so that I could run 2 1 Gb sticks at 1T. But you guys have swayed me otherwise....I just ordered another 2 stick bringing my grand total to 4 Gb now :) I thank you, my wallet hates you. Although, I must say that I am quite pessimistic as to how much of a difference the extra RAM will really make. I know that in XP, it would be pointless...but seeing that I'm running Vista x64 now, maybe I'll be able to justify that last $300. :)

2. How do I like Vista x64?
It's awesome. I've been running it on my FX-55 system since december and I've yet to have a problem that's not attributed to the lying SOB's at nvidia. :) It's solid, driver support is not an issue (for me at least) and, at this speed, I don't really see a performance hit in games. It's rock solid and very stable. I love it.

3. Why not get 150 Gb Raptors and a 7200.10?
Well that's easy--because these 3 drives were grandfathered in from my old build. I didn't buy them recently and I don't really see a need to replace them. 74 Gb is MORE than enough for a HD that essentially only has an OS on it. And I've yet to push the limits of the 2nd 74 Gb drive for only programs files. So, until I need to or until the speed difference is substantial, I'll be sticking with these older hard drives.

4. How exactly do you manage the hard drives?
Well really just like I said. I only install my OS on Raptor 1 and then never touch it again unless I'm installed "system" software (ie Logitech Setpoint, etc). Raptor 2 gets only program files. Whenever I install a game, application, or whatever, I will just change the install path to that drive. The bigger 7200.9 holds all my documents, music (TONS), and pictures (TONSERS) and really anything else that doesn't need the absolute fastest speed.

5. Why didn't you go for dual monitors?
Honestly, I've never liked dual monitor setup. I'd rather own one bohemoth of a display than two medium ones. (Just waiting for Apple's next generation of cinema displays to hit the market and I'll be looking at 30") :)

6. How much did all this cost?
A bajillion zillion.

7. Why plextor and not NEC?
Well I'm a creature of habit and Plextor drives have alway been VERY good to me. Although the idea of custom firmware on the NEC is inticing...it's IDE and I need the cable management of SATA.

8. The Zalman Tuniq Tower is better, quieter.
Well maybe so...but I'm very happy with what I've got.

9. PCP&C is a noisy POS.
Noisy? Yes. A POS? umm, hardly. Not many people will argue that you'll find a better performing consumer PSU than PCP&C...some may come close to matching it, but few will best it. Either way, I agree it's to loud for my taste. The OCZ ProXStream 1000w is in the mail.

And now for my question...what temperatures should I be seeing on my GPU/CPU/Chipset? What levels should I start getting worried. I know these babies produce some heat so I'm not sure where I should set my threshold.

Thanks!

When I had an 8800 I tried to keep temperatures below 90C.
I have no idea what kind of voltage is safe on a quad core and I'm curius to know

Good job..

Of course you did well and bought another 2 GB of ram.. If you didn't pity your money on the useless quad core(unless you're a 3d pro) then by all means you shouldn't do it for your ram especially in Vista..
I'd put a custom high end W/C in that rig.. High end air on this machine is unneceptable :p J/K
And yes obviously you have money to spare, so why not get a SSD for O/S?
Don't listen ppl about the psu.. It's the absolute best in ALL terms.. A monster psu, and I'm glad for you that you didn't bought a mediocre psu for such a system..
As for the monitor I 'm not sure.. You seem to be skeptical about some solutions and for some other really generous.. You could spend those extra money you paid for the quad core on the 30'' even if you are willing to wait for the next gen.. I mean you bought SLI G80 use them appropriately.. :p
I myself am waiting for 30'' with component outputs to throw my consoles as well in it..

Ok finished.. Hope you didn't misunderstand me..

It would be more than enough..No doubt..
BUT if you don't pity money you shouldn't do it on the psu.. It's the heart of your rig and you can see it as an investment.. Despite that it's the absolute best.. In ALL terms.. Well except Zippy..

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate x64 right now (link in sig if anyone is curious about t3h rig), and I'm impressed by how solid it's running. No crashes, no hiccups, no problems with 32-bit apps, nothing. Oh, and my ATi Catalyst 7.2 drivers, they work flawlessly. :p

You need faster RAM, faster HDs... (especially the HDs, they are the biggest bottleneck in your system after all).

Nice rig!

I think a PCP&P Silencer 750 Quad would handle all that and do it quietly but since money doesn't seem to be a concern the OCZ unit should work too.

I also think you should consider a 30" Dell or Apple monitor to perfect that monster! :)

Eff, just what I wanted in terms of the guts of the computer for my design rig that I'm trying to plan right now. :

Sorry, did I say wanted? I meant "dream".

Just how hot is the temp with those two GPUs? Jeebus, go for water cooling or something :p

Congrats, me likes, me wants.

BTW, you won't be disappointed by the OCZ PSU you're ordering. I have an OCZ Modstream 520W and it is freakin' SILENT. I love it. :)

Congrats on the build and upgrading to 4GB of RAM. Smart move. Great rig, enjoy it....if I had that money, I would have a similiar build.

mine is better  no for real, im not making a joke here check my sig

but from the bottom of my heart I say to you:
 enjoy that amazing system!

all I have to suggest, is that you get a 3007wfp. that 23 inch has got no where near enough pixels to make that system worth while. I would also get the galaxy 1000W rather than the OCZ, mostly for the looks, but thats my personal opinion.

[joke]Congratulations! You beat the world record of most FPS in games by 2FPS! You windows also boots up 0.0042 seconds faster![/joke]

Heh..anyways, good job. It's your money and its your hobby, do what you like with it.

One quick question though:
Well really just like I said. I only install my OS on Raptor 1 and then never touch it again unless I'm installed "system" software (ie Logitech Setpoint, etc). Raptor 2 gets only program files. Pictures of what? I mean I am not calling you a geek or anything, but I was under the impression that people who usually spend so much money that is equivalent of Africa's annual income, don't usually have a lot of friends, therefore not a lot of pictures.
The people that do have a lot of pictures though are the ones who spend half of their life in night clubs making out with hot chicks in short skirts and big boobs...and they usually can't tell the difference between a hard drive and RAM, yet alone to build a computer. No offense meant.

Agreed for the 30'' dell, though I wait for 30'' with components outputs.. I wish we will see them soon enough.. *sigh
As for the Enermax Galaxy 1Kw it is not a good option.. Too much ripple on such an expensive psu.. I would stay with the PC P&C which was his original idea for the absolute best, or take the Etasis ET850W(which I own) or the equivalent Silvestone ST85ZF which is based on the Etasis unit.. An almost perfect and overkill psu and most importantly at a much better price..

Did you mess around with the windows registry to set the default install path to the second HD (how do you go about doing that?)? The settings still go on the first hard drive right (Local settings, application data, etc...)? Does installing on two hard drives really have any noticable benefit? If you reinstall your OS do you have to reinstall all the programs as well?

this is off topic and just to answer this one question - foges - there is a small benefit from moving the pagefile off of the system hdd an onto a different hdd. like i said small, but definately there. personally i think there are numerous reasons to have more than 1 physical hdd in a machine, so i always do it that way.

op - congrats on the new machine - very nice. plextors are old skool...hahaha ;) not the same company or product as they use to be, so get some hacked necs in there :) just f*cking with you, nice build.

just out of curiosity, what made you decide to build a sli 8800gtx setup? did you put your lcd on your 7800gtx and get all p!ssed that it wouldn't game at decent rates @ 1920x1200? just curious, not haggling, like you said it is your $$$$, just curious

would definately like to see some pics

If the PC Power & Cooling PSU is too loud, go for one of their Silencer PSUs. I have a 750W Silencer right now and I can never hear the thing.

EDIT: Oh and that PC isn't a MONSTER PC without some fine Monster® Cables!

Shouldn't you get a UPS? I would hate to see what brownout can do to that rig.
