TBH you aren't going to be happy anywhere. Calling it now.
Given the OP's history that seems like a pretty safe bet.
Miserable people are going to be miserable wherever they are.

You can rent in some of the best Chicago neighborhoods for well under $2 per sq ft. If you're looking only at brand new luxury high rises right downtown you'll be in $3 per foot territory.
Champagne taste with a beer budget
Also LOL at everything outside of downtown or la Jolla is a ghetto. Clearly you did one drive through the city and that was it.
I live DT right now but if I end up making SD a permanent spot I intend to move out to one of the other neighborhoods where it is actually quite nice. You're not going to be looking at luxury housing because spending 800K+ isn't really in my budget but very very nice things can be had for reasonable price if you know where to look.

you should try couchsurfing. although i've read people would prefer visitors who are staying for more than a day or two. they want to be able to show you around their town.
This. Reading his blahblahblah reply of excuses, he'll never be happy anywhere. At his age and income level, you'd think he would be looking at roommates but he's such a miserable antisocial loser, he's going to spend all of his money on rent. He could even make a friend with a roommate. And lol, at being able to get a job anywhere. You would think during his traveling, he would be lining up interviews at all of these cities.
...
And I can get a job just about anywhere. Software development isn't exactly a job that is only happening between San Jose and San Francisco...
With all the gas money you spent you probably could have hired some kind of national real estate agent to do all the leg work for you.![]()
I've said it before, even if I was offered a job for a $1,000,000/yr in Seattle, I'd never take it. It's not valuable to waste my time in a city that I don't like. I have a very finite amount of time left in my life.

The problem with the "best" Chicago neighborhoods is that they're in Chicago
:whiste:
Ashville NC, go there, supposed to be the hip place to live.
Dude, screw you. I'd love to travel the US without a care in the world. Your biggest complaint is ghettos and crappy wifi... You have an incredible opportunity to experience so much of the world without major responsibilities, do it and love it, because your shitty attitude is ruining an awesome experience and that is YOUR idiotic choice.

1 month and like 8 different cities and it takes like at least week to set up an interview these days. Spoken like someone who hasn't had to job search in 10 years?
All the cities he visited I know for a fact suck, unless you have one of those sweet wealth inequality boosting gigs but you likely had to grow up there to get one. Unless you have a ton of money most of those cities suck.
Sounds like you're just unhappy with yourself. Moving anywhere won't change that.
Are you taking time to experience the city and all it's areas? You should try meeting up with some locals.
OP: make it stop? just stop then... but then you'd have nothing to complain about, so I see the dilemma.
