I've been thinking about suicide the last couple days

The Robin Williams death doesn't make much sense to me. Why would he hang himself when he probably had a crazy ass nice garage with nice cars in it?

Why hang yourself and shit all over yourself and probably was horribly painful when you have a nice garage and cars to carbon monoxide yourself.

Rather fall asleep then some very brutally painful hanging with shit running down your legs.

Ami I the only one who thinks this?

Modern vehicles would probably not work very well as their emissions are but a small % of what cars were before digital controlled injection became the norm.

I just imagined he has some old classic car in his garage. That makes sense Butch.

I don't know anything about car engines, but where is all that carbon going then if not into carbon monoxide or dioxide? I'm pretty sure running any combustion engine in a confined, poorly ventilated space with limited oxygen available is going to result in asphyxiating conditions quickly.

It's not impossible but it would be difficult to accomplish this with modern engines, here's why,

"In the past, before air-quality regulations and catalytic converters, suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning would often be achieved by running a car's engine in a closed space such as a garage, or by redirecting a running car's exhaust back inside the cabin with a hose. Motor car exhaust may have contained up to 25% carbon monoxide. However, catalytic converters found on all modern automobiles eliminate over 99% of carbon monoxide produced.[72] As a further complication, the amount of unburned gasoline in emissions can make exhaust unbearable to breathe well before losing consciousness."

Huh, I was under the impression that either would be somewhat painful to breathe and that inert gases were the only way to easily lose consciousness painlessly. Thanks for the info.

There are a million ways to kill yourself. If you're going to hang yourself, why not go down to the hardware store and buy a nice rope suitable for the job and find a good, stout crossbeam? Why a belt and a door knob? Why jump off a building? That must be very painful when you hit the ground. Why shoot yourself in the head and leave a big mess for your wife and kids to clean up?

I suspect most suicides are very spur of the moment, although the thoughts and depression may have been lingering for many years.

I would think pills would be the most painless, peaceful way to go, assuming you get the right kind of pills. If I can get access to deadly pills, I'm sure he could have.

I guess we'll never know what goes thru someones head when they are about to commit suicide.

Such a bizarre thing to do.

That doesn't always go as planned either, if you've got a high tolerance for the drug your using you might stay alive long enough for someone to find you or you might vomit some of them back up, the body tries to defend itself no matter what's going on in your head. Poor dude, the ridiculous alimony laws were sucking him dry, I'm sure his ex's hired the best blood-sucking lawyers HIS $$ could buy, lord no, there's no way they could possibly be forced into actually having to go out and WORK for $$ like the rest of us do.

I didn't know about that. I thought he was happily married. This explains a few things now.

So, if you carbon monoxide yourself, there's no pooping? Good to know. Mayne, you're a savant.

Edit: Sorry, I meant to say idiot savant.

I thought hanging was a fairly instant death? Since it just snaps your neck. Though you need to drop from a decent height I guess. If you don't then you end up surviving and suffocating slowly.

As for WHY he did it, part of the reason was probably because he was in the middle of a divorce and about to lose everything he had and even end up going to jail since the alimony he had to pay was beyond crazy and he would not have been able to afford it.

The whole divorce system really needs to change. Scrap the whole child support and alimony thing and just make everything be a one time 50/50 split. Right now the woman basically gets payments from the guy for the rest of his life on top of him having to give up the house and everything he owns.

Something not right about the current divorce system.
