What I have right now is a DFI mobo, with an AMD 3700+, Nvidia Gforce 7950 (512mb ram), 2 gigs of Ram, Seagate Baracuda 320 gigs. I do beleive thats all of the main components. I built that system a couple of years ago. So, now its time for a new one. I havent been able to keep up with the latest, so I'm asking you guys for suggestions/opinions. I would like to build something with an $800 budget. I dont game that much anymore. However, I would like to know that I can run most of the newer games.

I'm not bias when it comes to the cpu. So feel free to sugest either or. Same thing with mobos. I would like to stay with nvidia and seagate.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Read the stickied thread. We see dozens of these each day, and it gets kinda tiring to completely throw together a rig that often.

Read the sticky, and be more specific about your goals for this computer. You don't game, but what do you do?

Get a typical Intel build if light gaming is the most strenuous activity you do. They're posted all over this forum.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L Motherboard - less than $100
Intel E4500 CPU - less than $150
2x2GB kit of memory - roughly $100
GeForce 8800GT - $230 when it's on sale
This totals to about $580

Depending on if you want to reuse any of your old stuff
Cooler Master Case - less than $50
Corsair 450VX PSU - $60-70 or Antec Earthwatts 430 PSU - $55
500GB HD - roughly $115, down to $100 if its on sale
Extras total $240

Reuse the CD/DVD-ROM, mouse, keyboard, monitor, speakers.

Criticizing those you are asking for help isn't going to get you anywhere. If you can fill in the questions asked in the sticky then perhaps we can offer you some more specific advice. All we can do at the moment is give you a generic list, as chinaman has helpfully done, but any feedback other than that will require more information on your needs and uses.

Chinaman's response is pretty close to the mark, but that's only if you're intent on buying right now. Frankly, I don't think this is a great time in the market. Ripe Intel CPUs like the Q6600 and E4500 have been holding steady for months now at about $260 and $130, respectively, and are due to drop significantly any day now. Also very shortly, new 45nm CPUs may be released at the mainstream and budget price points.

Although not a foregone conclusion, I wouldn't be surprised if the new line of X38 boards don't send P35 prices to the basement in the coming weeks.

Also, you can invariably get great deals on cases and PSUs from Fry's B&M, but not apparently at the moment.

I made the mistake of buying at a very bad time back in February, 2007, and let me tell you, seeing the price of your rig drop by 1/3 or more less than a month after you bought it is one of the worst feelings in the world. I knew it was a bad time, but I refused to wait out of impatience.

With 2GB RAM, a 3700+ and GeForce 7950 you'll be just fine for another few weeks or even months. Given that, I highly suggest you wait until 45nm or quad-core chips (whichever are first) reach a tolerable price point. In the mean time, check every so often for killer case and/or PSU deals--which you can buy in advance since they won't depreciate in value like other PC parts.

Good luck!

I wasn't criticizing. If it sounded that way, I'm sorry.

You bring some good points in your reply. I think I'm a little "anssy." Its been a little while since I built my last pc, I just cant wait to build the next one. I guess I'll follow your advice and start looking for a case, psu, etc.

Thank you.
