I've been home all day and I got USPS's "We Missed You!"

Funny I never had this ninja issue with the carriers here but it does seem to happen to lot of people in the states. Though here it's usually Canada Post, FedEx or Purolator. Purolator handles the UPS packages so anything sent to be via UPS comes to me via Purolator.

The issue I have is most carriers try to deliver in the day, when I'm at work. Residential packages should be delivered any time after 5:00. Everyone is at work before that, why bother trying? In my case I work shifts so I might happen to be home if I'm on a day off, but 99% of people work 9-5ish.

Hello Red Squirrel,

I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that may have ensued.

We understand that not all people are available during this period of time. That’s why we offer other delivery options such as; redelivery(upon request), redirect your parcel to the nearest retail or even the signature not required service.

For more details on these alternatives or any other inquiries, please feel free to contact us at customer.care@purolator.com.

My best story requires a little set up:

We have a fence around our property. The automatic gate is located over the driveway and is controlled by remotes in our cars and a button near the door to the garage. That button also happens to be near my home office.

My home office and the button are on the opposite side of the house from our front door.

I was working in my office when I heard the truck pull up. I had been ninja'd in the past and saw the driver had entered our property, so as I walked past the button, I hit it to close the gate. Then the doorbell rang. Probably 5 seconds later, I was at the front door, calling the trapped driver back with my package.

Once I received my package, I told him to wait a few seconds for me to open the gate. I could not help but smile.

Had this happen to me the day before yesterday. I was home all day too and got some BS explanation about there being a dog in the yard.

Yes, most Mail carriers are quite lazy, plus the fact that the sooner they get their route finished, the sooner they are off for the day (with a full days pay).

I found that a $100 Gift Card at Christmas goes a long way toward how well your carrier treats you!
Just yesterday, for example, I had a package that required my signature. My carrier drove all the way up my driveway (1/2 mile long gravel drive!), then got out of his car and was heading to the front porch with the package, I met him 1/2 way down the sidewalk, but he was willing to bring it to the door for me!

I am usually outside or in the barn when he runs, & I make it a point to meet him before he gets out.
He even brings anything that won't fit in my box to the house as well, signature required or not.
(Now if I could just get the substitute carrier to close my mailbox door, I would be golden!)

Mailbox is out at the road on one of the few paved roads in the area. Speed limit is 55 mph. Road has truck traffic during the day with the occasional big rig breaking the law because they're not supposed to be on the road. The point I'm making is that there is some big wind due to traffic.

Fourth day in a row the mailbox door has not been closed. Wide open with mail just barely inside the box. Has any mail been sucked out and blown to timbuktu? How would I know?

The Post Office is in some deep shit so I can only assume I'm being taught a lesson for utilizing modern methods of communication.

I've just given up on having stuff shipped to my house. I have it delivered to the office and they don't dare leave a ninja note on the door when our receptionist is sitting right there looking at them.

Sorry I'm three years late but this was confusing me as well

"US manufacturer of oil and air filters Purolator of Fayetteville, North Carolina (founded as Motor Improvements Incorporated in 1923) the name was originally an abbreviated form of "pure oil later". In 1987, the company returned to Canadian ownership. Although it retained the Purolator name, it has since had no connection with the oil filter business."

I realize this is an old thread, but I fucking hate that USPS does that. Usually I'm legitimately not home, but why can't they be like UPS and just leave the fucking package (I live in an apartment complex, UPS leaves it inside the locked outside door, in the hallway). Or if that's too difficult (I mean, it is though), how about putting it in the goddamn parcel box underneath my regular mailbox? Maybe it'll be different at my new apartment complex, but that's what USPS did at my last one. Then that goddamn slip says TOMORROW, when I again am working ~ 9-5 and will miss it.

Conversely, I'd be PISSED if they left a $500 smartphone outside with no authorization.

They would sometimes leave laptops worth thousands of dollars outside, even while I was at home. They just didn't even knock.

couple of weeks ago I had to go down to the UPS facility and pick up my signature required package. After months of having a doorbell ring about 6pm, I get a signature required delivery and they decide that noon would be a good time to shift the delivery to.

Even knowing this is an old thread, the weird thing is, don't most of you have a "regular" driver for the various carriers (ie you are on a route)?

We lived in two apartments for 5 years each and they each had a regular driver, even here at our house it's usually one of two regulars. Fedex is a hodgepodge (especially with Ground) but they get the deliveries made. Even the sketchy fly by night outfits Amazon uses occasionally (aka dude in a late 80s minivan or 1992 Accord) get the stuff dropped off.

USPS though...I remember they managed to blackhole one out of the four UPS's I ordered once. They found it a month or two later. I think they used it as a doorstop for awhile. They will use 5 different drivers on our route any given week. We have a "regular" but he must have 46 weeks of vacation and sick time per year or something. And Priority package deliveries seem to get made by someone else altogether at random points during the day.

Of course...whenever I ship to someone, I show I care and ship cheap, I ship USPS. 😀

One of the most joyful phonecalls I've had is after getting off the phone with a shipper when the said they couldn't guarantee a delivery time after a failed delivery several hours prior to what the said the window would be and I would have been home for after leaving work early.

wat?😕

Feel free to borrow some of my punctuation marks, as you seem to be out: ......................,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????

The good news is that if the USofA is ever invaded, we have a completely stealth guerrilla strike team that will be able to quickly and lethally dispatch our occupying invaders without ever being seen.

Each and every one of the bodies left in their wake will have a note attached to them headlined: "We missed you! (not)"

Lucky for me, I get most stuff via UPS...and I'm about a mile from the warehouse. That means, my neighborhood is usually the last stop...so I can leave my porch light on and give them a nice welcome between 6:30pm and 8pm when they get here.

The best thing that ever happened to me, shipping-wise, was when I learned that my work didn't mind if people got personal items shipped to the front desk. Someone is ALWAYS there to sign, and I ALWAYS get my packages.

Now it pisses me off when someone won't ship to my work address, because it means that I'm going to miss the delivery due to the ninja effect.

I ship everything to my office. My house has a gate around it, so getting deliveries at home is tough.

I work in a very large building with very efficient mail/package delivery, so, once I get notice that it is in the building, I know I will have the package in a few minutes.

Before I had anything sent here, I went to the mail room and spoke to the man in charge. I think he appreciated me asking for permission (even if I was going to do it anyway 😉 ).
