I've been getting weird and sketchy text messages.

Had a text by an old basketball coach who told me that I can do anything in life. The thing is I never had a basketball coach, and I had never played high school sports.

Had a few text asking me how I am doing from people I dont' know.

Had a UPS text message that my package was running late. The problem is the decimal was missing from the S in U.P.S. and when I clicked on the text link I was directed to the USPS site. The site was static. The links didn't work, and they were asking for my information. Name, home address, phone, credit card. It looked really sketchy. I immediately deleted that message. Gave them nothing. That was a few weeks ago.

Had a guy text me on multiple occasions. He wanted to know how I was doing. Over and over. I blocked his ass.

Has anyone else had these experiences?

I wouldn't know since I only answer voice-calls I'm expecting and/or are in my contacts while Google takes care of 99% of spam-SMS before I'm even aware of them.

I mostly get sportsball gambling spam. It comes in bursts. I'll get a few in a week, then nothing for awhile. I block the numbers for all the good it does(none). I would limit sms to contacts only, but I like leaving it open in case someone really needs to contact me, and they aren't in my list. The spam's infrequent enough to not be a big problem.

Why would you click the link? The 101 way to avoid phishing and malware is to not click unexpected or suspicious links.
