Its called a pest control company. You have no problem with chemicals (as seen with the Raid!) so get that crap dead man.

Ladybugs eat aphids, so they're good for gardeners.

I did not know that, but I do know June Bugs serve no purpose, and even if they're harmless there's something un nerving about how they bump around blindly and will even smack into the side of your head from time to time.

and for a few posts up I dunno what the hell Wikipedias problem is but that first link ain't no damn June Bug. If it is, people in California don't know this. Everyone calls the OP looking bug a June Bug, we call those Japanese Beetles.

Where I come from this is a june bug. And this is a japanese beetle. I've seen the bugs in your pic but usually only at night.

This is accurate

Not really. That first pic is a dung beetle, not a june bug.

Wrong. This is a dung beetle. And evidently californians have not experienced the delights of the japanese beetle. The little bastards will voraciously eat any worthwhile plant all summer long. They are about one third the size of the june bug which is harmless unless it whacks you in the eye. They usually only last about a month or so.

Did you bother reading the wikipedia link? What you call "june bug" is a misnomer. It is a type of dung beetle. We have both here. Believe me, there is a huge difference (in smell if nothing else).

Did we get Syringered?

I'm rather pissed off, I was outside smoking and thought I saw the one I saw flying around INSIDE yesterday on my bedroom window, so I went back inside, Raid in hand, only to find that it's on the OUTSIDE of the window. I think they're somehow getting in through the window. I hate these things solely because they always manage to scare the crap out of me, and annoy me the second I shut my lights off to go to sleep.

i think this is right

Closest thing yet. Will check back later to see what the entomologist comes up with. I've got to know what that ugly ass bug is.:D

Indeed the closest thing thus far. Looks enough alike, except the three I've found (and killed) didn't have antennae.

Yes, I read your link it said what I am calling a june bug "Cotinis nitida, also known as the June bug (a misnomer) or Green June beetle and several other local variants, is a beetle of the family of the dung beetles, the Scarabaeidae. It occurs in the southeastern part of the United States. It is not easily distinguished from the related southwestern species, Cotinis mutabilis."

Yes, it is of the dung beetle family, but it is not a dung beetle. And we have both here too one is black "dung beetle" and one is green "june bug".

Evidently bugs are called different names depending on your geographical location. So i am done with the june bug discussion. Now, where is the man with bug phd to tell us what kind of demon spawn mrSHEiK124 is up against!

I would've posted earlier, but I've been busy helping a friends parents sandbag their house. It's crazily flooding here for some reason. Anyways here is my dad's response:

It's a beetle in the family Scarabidae, the June or May beetle group. It looks beat up with perhaps the elytra on the far side missing. The other elytra also looks odd. Perhaps it was exposed to one of the insect hormone based insecticides that cause growth deformities.

And yes, I sent him a link to one of the pictures of the one you beat up. If you wanted something a bit more specific let me know and I'll ask him again.

These little guys always used to accompany the really large, brown june bugs during the summers in michigan. I always just assumed it was a smaller version of the same species. However, i have never seen one with the coloring of the first picture you posted. So...it's a type of june bug.

Thanks! I guess it is some kind of June bug, most everyone agreed it's a beetle. I sent the pictures to what's that bug, but they'll probably put them under unnecessary carnage . These are fucking pests, I don't care that I squashed one and sprayed two, there are 3 or 4 more loose in my apartment that I can't find. I think I'm going to buy a bug zapper and put it on my patio [fully screened :(], since that's the only way I can power something outside.

Wait until summer on a warm night and go swimming in a pool with a light in it. Those fuckers seem to be attracted the light and I have seen pools with what seemed like 100 of the bastards in it. You think you hate them now, try diving in the pool and when you come up having 2-3 in your hair still semi alive. I've had it happen and it's shitty to say the least lol. I remember once I came out of friends pool and felt something crawling on my head. I KNEW what the fuck it was and couldn't help but yelp like a little girl.
And when I was a teenager I had one fly in my mouth when I was skatebording down the street :(
