Ivan Rodriguez: HOFer?

he is definitely one of the best catchers in the game today. has been for the last 10+ years.

is he a definite first round HOFer?

or does detroit need to win the world series this year to solidify his legacy?

even though Mike Piazza never won a world series, i think he was a better offensive catcher than Rodriguez so 10+ yrs doesnt hold true for me

Is there any question? He's the best defensive catcher in the history of the game and one of the best offensive catcher in history, just behind Piazza.

which part of their respective careers? if you are talking prime to prime possibly. if you are talking piazza with the mets the last 2 yrs and pudge with detroit and the marlins, no way piazza is even close to pudge.

and yes, the power arm of pudge is a very important component of that defense.

exactly, their WHOLE careers which includes the last 2, so if we say that pudge ALWAYS had the better arm, they were comparable otherwise defensively but pudge is CLEARLY superior for the last 2, 3 or even 4 seasons, than yes, the net result is over their careers, pudge was and is CLEARLY the better defensive player.

regardless, my OP is correct, IRod is without question one of the best catchers for the last 10+ seasons.

I think he's a HOF'er, though I wish there weren't steroid rumors surrounding him. Who knows, because if he did take steroids then I'd hope he never gets in. But I really just can't get over the nickname. Carlton Fisk is the true Pudge in baseball! 😉 Anywho, I kinda look down on journeymen too, though, but I know it's not all his fault, as the Marlins, for instance, were dumping everyone left & right. All-in-all, I think he's getting into the hall. Maybe not first round, as that's not that easy to do, but he'll eventually make it.
