Is it any good?
If so, better than media player or winamp?
The main reason why i want to install it is to see movie trailers that needs it.

He's probably asking because Apple now bundles iTunes and Quicktime together.

Here is a link for Quicktime by itself which, as modeps mentioned, is what you need to watch movie trailers.

its a good jukebox player. its database search feature is very fast and convenient. i use both winamp and itunes. i only associate winamp with mp3 though since it loads faster.

ITunes is awesome. You can import CD's in MP3, AAC and a few other formats, send them into an Ipod or burn to CD all from one application. It's also the biggest music store on the internet.

I just bought a 40GB Ipod this week and all my CD's are going to get imported as AAC since i like the quality better than MP3. Even without an Ipod, I'd use it to listen to MP3's or some other music files.

Does the iPod require iTunes?

no but it would be pretty dumb to use an ipod without it

iTunes is buggy bloatware, and quicktime is pretty much malware - install either at your own peril. To play music stick with what you use now, for .mov and .qt video use QuickTime Alternative

Broad classification for software that stiffarms your system - includes viruses & spyware, also programs like Real & QT. They're not viruses or spyware... but all the same, you don't want to install them.

Iirc Real would reset file associations regardless of whether you turned the feature off, among other things... this was years ago, but from what I've read they haven't changed a bit.
