if you are on a lan sharing files across iTunes, you can play them streaming. Although, is there a way to download them from the user? Just like a LAN network transaction?

Buy the CD. Paying full price for 1/10 the data (mp3, ogg, aac, and wma) is ridiculous, and if you ever get a HQ sound setup or headphones you'll kick yourself for it.
