I buy a nice envy 24ht-s sound card, fire up the system, route the audio through the wolfson (instead of the via) dacs, and it sounds like CRAP in iTunes. Now I'm using Winamp but I miss the iTunes UI :(

[/rant]

Edit -
Wolfson DACS = 192 KHz, most are just 48 KHz

On a serious note, try foobar. It even has a plugin to support ... *spits* ... ipods.

What envy card did you get? I use a toslink (optical) cable to my little sony bookshelf stereo, so I don't have to worry about the DACs in the sound card

Ya sorry but running Wolfson to a 2.1 Klipsch set is like running a race car on 85 octane unleaded.

i think the analogy needs work....

fixed

running Wolfson to a 2.1 Klipsch set is like running a '79 dodge dart on premium fuel and using synthetic oil

Basically, it is a waste as the vehicle/speakers could never take advantage of such high-end addatives/signals

Its what I'm using. Foopod does work fine.

I do like iTune's filtering system, I'd love to find a similiar UI for foobar, as it is I use Columns UI which is really nice.

can you tell with blind a b test? as said, the klipsch shouldn't be able to take advantage of the difference of supposed higher quality anyways:p sorta absurd. heck if u blind a b test a person with one signal slightly louder they will mostly think its higher quality :)

It's like having an Dual Core A64 @ 2.8GHz, 4GB of ram, overclocked SLI 7800GTX, and a 2TB SCSI RAID array and playing nothing but solitaire on a 15" monitor in Windows 3.1.

That should be understandable, correct? :p

You guys make it sound like the Wolfson DACs are expensive, these analogies compare inexpensive setups to expensive setups. The sound card I got with the Wolfson DACs only cost about 30 bucks, so it just didn't make sense to not utilize it since that's still below the cost of even an SB Live!

As I posted in your GH thread, make sure you disable any post-processing in iTunes (Sound Enhancer / Sound Check) and try playing with the mix between hardware and software volume levels.
