I have been buying songs off iTunes for years and have no problems with it. I am glad I will be able to upgrade rather than having to rebuy them at their higher price.
LOL, you guys and iTunes' DRM crack me up. Redownload your music? Upgrade? Man, I just get a chuckle out of that. :)

that said, my I point out 8 tracks, lack of ff/rr, singles, etc;)

nothing's perfect and somehow we all deal with it.

Yeah, the increased bitrate is nice. I'd buy the higher bitrate songs for $1.30 going forward, but I'm not redownloading my iTunes songs just for the higher bitrate.

I just checked how much it will cost me to redownload them all....

QTFairUse won't magically make an extra 128 kbps appear

If you really cared about the "quality" of the extra 128 kbps, you probably wouldn't be downloading music that's not lossless anyway. It's so ridiculous that people are saying "oh the extra 128kbps, that's the hotness". Most people won't be able to tell the difference/care anyway.

I just ABX'd a 128 kbps AAC with a flac of Gnarls Barkley's crazy, and got 4/4 right (6% chance that I'm guessing). True, at this point it was quite difficult for me to judge but then again, my sound system on this computer is nothing to write home about (on-board Azalia sound with Klipsch Promedia 2.1s). At 256 kbps I really couldn't tell them apart; perhaps on a higher end system, but I doubt it; I'm fairly certain that at 256 kbps AAC is essentially transparent to everyone.

With that said, I only buy throw-away type tracks on iTunes; anything I'll want to listen to for more than a couple of months, I buy on CD.

.99 was too much for what you were getting. Prices going up, meh. I'll still wait till someplace has the CD on sale for a couple bucks and rip it myself.

Prices aren't going up, the original offerings with DRM will still be available for $.99. The DRMless, higher bitrate songs are a new offering in addition.

Cliffs:
New product, new price, old product, same old price.

Thank you Capt. Obvious.

:) Feel the same way...if it's really good I'll buy the CD...otherwise it's just singles that I get off of iTunes.

edit:

http://www.apple.com/

It's here :D

iTunes Plus

For just 30¢ more per song, choose iTunes Plus songs that feature higher quality, 256 kbps AAC encoding ? twice the standard bit rate ? and no DRM (digital rights management). That means you can play it on iPod and other digital music players and an unlimited number of computers.

:D

I don't see the value at $1.29/song. I'll just go buy the CD and convert the music myself for that price. I'm sure this does nothing but make the pirates want to pirate more as well.

Good to know. This may be worthwhile after all.
