iTunes is evil!!

sixone

Lifer
I've finally transferred all my CD's to my PC, and am fleshing out my collection with a bunch of old stuff from back before CD's. 😱

I have been searching on iTunes, and they have 'em ALL. Not one missing yet. I spent $40 in 15 mins. :|

And I'm only a quarter of the way thru my list of artists. 😕

Speaking of music download, is allofmp3 legit? I looked at the site and it looked a little flakey, $2 for an entire album is a bit strange.

It is only legal if you live in Russia, and even then it is immoral, because the artist gets nada.

You are basically paying for piracy.

Yea, iTunes sucks. I would never use it.

Buck, there is much debate as to whether allofmp3 is legit. I personally use it and love it. Looking back at my records, spent about $60 in music there. The people that say it is legal argue that its in russia, and russian copywright laws are different than ours, so its legal. Then the others say that doesn't matter, we still need to abide by US laws. Take your pick.

iTunes is a big hairy PITA to use, but where else am I going to find stuff from the 70's, without having to buy a whole album to get one song?

And don't even tell me about these pseudo-legal download sites. Legal and moral are two very different things.

So using it is breaking the law?

Is buying a bootleg copy of some DVD or software package from singapore for use in the US legal....um, No.

allofmp3 is not legal...but it is safer, at this point, than using BT or kazaa, etc.

But I would be careful on this point. Imagine what could happen if the RIAA pays for a list of allofmp3's US customers sometime in the future. Allofmp3 will fork over the list if the price is right, particularly if they decide to close shop, and RIAA could then have a field day...credit card proof of illegal music purchasing.

Not exactly. Theres teh whole separate billing service which adds extra loops.

Besides, its sharing thats what gets people in trouble. Ok, so if it was ever deemed illegal (which so far hasn't been proven in a court of law) to use allofmp3.com I'd have to pay for music that I like anyways.

Okay...here is the problem with itunes...your songs that you BOUGHT AND PAID FOR are useless. If you wanted to copy the files somewhere and play them on say a laptop using Windows Media Player...oops they are copy protected and you have to dick with licenses and a bunch of other crap that you really shouldn't have to mess with.

and that is a problem w/ DRM in general, NOT just itunes. It however really only limits the number of computers you can play it on (itunes anyway, can't speak for windows media stores). Regardless, I still don't like it. DRM suckas.

Another issue is the fact people fail to realize the importance of backing up. When they lose their data, they expect to be able to retrieve what they paid for back... but get pissed when they find out they can't.

I do however, really like itunes as a program, even if it's a bit of a memory hog.

I don't have any vinyl. I'm looking for stuff that came out in the late 70's/early 80's, when I didn't have money for fun stuff like records. 🙁

Tell me about it. I just got my first iPOD after having a Rio and I absolutely hate iTunes. It is so non-intuitive its ridiculous.

How difficult is it to put a drag and drop feature into the program?
