iTunes editing song information

Anyway to make it so that when you edit the information in iTunes it actually edits the file information itself? That would be great... if there's some hack for this out there then that would be fantastic. I hate having to edit the file information manually so that I actually get the information to carry over when I say... format my computer and don't back up the iTunes folder or WHATEVER.
 
i see the file modification date change, and when i move it to another Mac, it's still there.

is that what you mean?

I'm using Windows. Maybe it works differently on a Mac. However, when I edit the files in iTunes (Name of the song, artist name, album, whatever) it never gets edited into the actual file... It's just stored as an edit in some iTunes database..
 
Make sure that in the preferences you have it checked to allow iTunes to manage your music
