itunes cpu usage

Anyone notice how high the CPU usage is for the itunes program? Right now, in minimized mode, it's using between 60 and 85% of my CPU resources on an athlon xp 2100+. Seems a bit useless if it uses so many resources that I can't do anything else while it's running.

It's using between 2% and 4% on my Athlon XP 1600+. Actually, that's everything that's running in the background and iTunes combined.

Mine takes about 15-18% CPU on a Celeron 700 playing MP3's. Only about 10-12% Playing 128kbit AAC files though.

One another note.. Winamp 5 is taking about 2-4% CPU time on my PII 400.

Winamp 2.91 with my now dead Turtle Beach Santa Cruz was taking >1% CPU time.. The directsound plugin was unloading most of the work onto the soundcard.

there's something wrong with your system. In my system, iTunes took 6% of CPU usage to start, then if I let it sit there, it would not use anything even at maximized (i mean, ZERO percent). I tried to play a song, it jumped up and down between 6% and 0% (I guess when it was buffering the song it jumped up to 6%, after that, it went back to 0)

I took a snapshot of Task Manager here

everyone is recommending that stupid sound check thing.. it's off by default isn't it? it was for me.... my cpu usage is under 5% pretty much all the time.... and it still hangs sometimes.

Mine was up around 30% for a while at work, but then it calmed down to 2%-5% after a few minutes. I dunno what it was doing, but it nevertheless stopped.

ups

Great sound!

you do know that itunes is prolly just the GUI for the real player .. QuickTime 6.4, which is why it installs .. well that's the theory and i believe it.

2nd point. i doubt you can audibly hear the difference in the varying mp3 players too.

Huge difference between wmp9, winamp and foobar. Foobar pwns them. Itunes is the happy medium
