Just installed it.

Now all my music sounds like it is playing out of a 30s era phonograph.

I have already noticed 2 UI bugs in the damn thing.

And why oh why does Apple insist on installing the damn Quicktime tray icon on every iTunes update?

Can you do me a favor and open up your QuickTime Preferences, click the Audio tab and tell me what options you have selected under the Sound Out section?

Merci.

right now it seems like a gimmick more than anything, but using hardware acceleration is a great start. Hopefully they can create better and better views in the future

I tracked the problem down to the Sound Out preference in the QuickTime Preferences...

My soundcard (SB Audigy Gamer) supports 24bit audio and sample rates up to 192kHz but if I select anything other than a rate of 44.1kHz and a size of 16bit it sounds like iTunes is trying to kill my speakers.

Mine sounds the same, but it looks like they have some serious memory/cpu usage issues that they need to fix. When I plug in my 60GB gen 5, both cores on my machine go to 40% while it updates for a good 5-10 minutes. Just normal usage leaves me at 100,000K in memory. Other than that I actually really like the new layout and usage of album artwork. Oh yeah and it's really nice that it will go to the itunes store and download all of your missing artwork.

I guess you skipped over the gapless playback. That goes for the iPod update as well. And also the feature to transfer files back to your PC. Yeah, it sucks alright.

They actually added gapless playback to this release of iTunes. That is exactly why I upgraded.

memory hog it is. and i encountered the shortcut deleting problem. it seemed to happen if i moved anything out of the shortcut folder it made... so i deleted the whole thing and made my own shortcut. very odd.

what UI bugs have people encountered? and the cover thing is cool looking, but rather useless i think. I dunno, I guess I never look at the covers. And itunes couldn't find everything for me.. or it's working in the background.

640x480.. finally. what it should have been in the first place. I actually would use it to catch shows I miss. or just to not have commercials. it's alright for movies (did a test movie). I personally would go for it if it were something like $10 for new, $7 for old. add the ability to burn to dvd and i would give it a thumbs up for the general consumer. mainly because on my xp2000+ system... i can't do a damn thing when I play h264 encoded stuff :(

Can someone with iTunes (on a PC) please do the following...

1. Start->Control Panel->QuickTime
2. Click on the Audio tab

Can you tell me...

1. Do you have safe mode selected?
2. What are your Sound Out settings (rate/size/channels)?
3. What is your default music synth selected?

im not a fan of it.... wmp11 is far better (which is suprising because i expexted the next "real" release (not a point one) to get to wmp11's music management capabilty but they only copied wmp11's most basic listing of coverart (the one with the songs) but wmp11 takes that to a whole new level using album art on every view (even when listing by genre, song, album etc). It really looks to me like apple saw how good wmp11's music managing was and tried to copy it but didnt have enough time to get it fully in place so they added one little thing (it really looks like the album art view was tacked on at the last second)
