It is a change. It used to be a one or the other thing. Now it appears that if you were to connect your phone, you could do a full backup without having to jump through hoops.

The easier they can make syncing the better. The next change they need to do is let my device sync content from anything with my name on it, any way I choose.

Maybe I want to wirelessly sync this week, but plug in next week. Maybe I am out and about and want to add a song from iTunes Match. Maybe I am on the road and want to use my laptop to sync. Let me do these things Apple. I don't know if you have some sort of weird interpretation of a licensing agreement from 10 years ago or something, but let me do it.
Apple doesn't even think it's weird that it requires a media player to manage a phone. There should be separate applications for media management and basic phone management (updates, contacts, calendars, full backups, etc).

Well, then they would also need to put out 2 versions of all those things.

I wish i wouldnt have updated to this. For someone who doesnt use itunes a lot, it seems not as good. Maybe ive gotta use it more though.

oh god, agreed to an update this morning after refreshing my podcast. please tell me how to make it look like it used to.

No kidding, went to do my daily podcast sync and would have been near impossible without those hints. No idea of whay they would ship default view so blank.

I got this now. I have wondered this for a little while:

For years i"ve collected MP3s and many lack metadata. I have always organized by folder in the windows file system, but iTunes seems to only care about their tags. Is this true, or is there any way to use itunes to see the music in a way that mirrors the file system? I can't be the only one with this issue...

EDIT: Oh heck, this works: just set itunes as default player for MP3s 🙂

This almost works.. keep itunes in full screen but also have the mini player at the desktop,

So if you have itunes main window showing and go to Window - Show Equalizer, Show Mini Player you'll have all three windows showing. If you then fullscreen main window, when you jump back mini player and eq is still on your desktop and you can use them to control itunes.

However if you then view full screen itunes and go back they dissapear again.. wish they'd stay.

Why not install Mp3Tag and update your ID3 tags based on your folder / file names?

Having issues with detecting iDevice (phone, pad, iPod) when connected to already opened iTunes 11. The phone or pad beeps to verify connection-charhing status, but nothing in iTunes showing a device is now connected. I have to close iTunes 11 and reopen, THEN the iDevice shows as connected. Never had this issue before. So I know its some iTunes 11 bug.

Well, a lot of the tags in place I am ok with.

I've discovered unfortunately that unlike, say windows media player, if I select a bunch of files in explorer and hit play itunes fires but only plays the first one. If there is a way to get it to play multiple files at once opened this way it really is all I'd need.

Found first major issue for me. I can no longer gift custom playlists. Even the instructions in the store point to the old way of doing it which no longer works. Any ideas?

New update 11.0.1, really speeds up the search in a large library. Like, vast improvement. It would hang up for a couple of seconds before this update, but now it's damn snappy. (433GB, 72k songs in my library... on an external USB 2.0 HDD, so yeah I expect it to be a little slow)

Wow, that's a big library. I shouldn't have any problems then with my little 50GB library. 🙂

Hook me up with a screen shot. What OS are you on?

OS X 10.6.8

Have you clicked the 'Turn on Genius' button? That starts the process. Genius needs to run against your library to find out what you have. It does this once (and updates periodically) so when you invoke it later, it happens almost immediately.

I am kinda embarrassed that I don't know but where is that button?

EDIT: NM I found it. 🙂

It works now, thanks Stu!

But it sure did take quite awhile to gather the information to get Genius started, what all did it do and what information did Genius send to Apple?

thanks
