No, we're not going to Europe or Hawaii or skiing in Wyoming. No, I didn't spend a fortune on presents. No, I can't afford to fix my busted car for a couple weeks until I get some money (so the brakes are going to squeak for a while - I'm told they aren't completely unsafe yet). No, we're not having a big dinner, and we're not going out to a fancy restaurant. No, I didn't splurge on a big screen TV to watch football. No, I didn't get a big tree and I didn't spend a lot of time and money decorating.

No, we're not destitute, just low on funds. We're fine, and I don't think we need to spend a lot just because it's the holiday.

And, I'm really happy for other people who are celebrating whatever way they want.

So, why are so many idiots giving me a hard time because I'm staying within my budget and having a good, but modest, celebration with just family and friends on my own terms?

Merry Christmas.

you tell 'em. merry christmas :wine:

That's okay, my family isn't doing christmas this year. We never have. The most eventful Christmas I can remember involved sitting around a table and each of us getting a CD and some hershey kisses.

Kids today get too much stuff. It encourages a sense of entitlement to stuff. Nobody is entitled to anything more than a life.

Christmas on my own terms:

1/5th cheap rum, 1/2 gallon eggnog

12 pack beer

some good food

my dogs

no bittches running their mouths

I am good to go

Who is giving you trouble about spending xmas within budget? Just forget about them and enjoy it to the fullest.

You talk about entitlement when the food you eat for dinner would feed a third world village for a month

Why are you concerned with what those idiots think?

Living beyond their means is how people wind up saddled with $20k in credit card debt.

i have the money to spend this christmas, but I'm not doing so. I don't want to spend tons of money on gifts for people I don't really like. I'm buying a few nice things for my brother, his fiance, and my dad. That's it (my mom passed away in march).

Saving the rest for your sex change procedure?

Good for you OP, stick to your guns & enjoy what you have, i'm in the same boat this year. Spending my 25th time wisely at my mothers/fathers then the rest of the day at the mother-in-laws, not giving much this year & don't expect much back, time well spent with the family is MUCH more important than gifts, enjoy what you have.

Merry Christmas to you too,

I had an ok day, i did not have a lot of money to buy gifts for family,
but had a pretty good day.My one sister brought tears to my eyes,
with the nice gifts she gave us All.

My other sister, gave me a $20 bill, along with some small stuff,
LOL.I had given her son, my Nephew a $20 bill, too. 🙂

The worst part was my TV died,my Only TV, it was a 25 inch one.
I had an old 19 inch,I gave away a couple years ago.

I used my bill paying money to buy myself a new TV,i bought a 27 " on sale at Kmart.
Only bummer is, so now, I will be 2 weeks late for all my bills. 🙁
Oh well, I will catch up by tax return time.

Yes, it would. I wish I could do more about that. I sponsor a child, but living the life that I do, choosing to go to college, I can't afford more than that. There's myriad ways that we could go into how I live in excess.

Well I was being sarcastic , but let me guess...you are a puss?

Who is giving you grief about not spending money? I'm just not following. You say so many idiots as if the entire world is giving you a hard time, but I've spent $40 this christmas total because I am so fvcking broke and I've never once had anyone give me anything close to a hard time.

Shens, name 1 person that's giving you a hard time about it...

badmouse, and everyone else: Best of the holidays to each and everyone of you. This is one of the best threads I've read all year.

All it takes for me to have a good christmas is the right people. Or just one person, wearing latex, ready to meet my deviant needs.

I'm very easy to please. Money need not factor into it.
