That's true. France was definitely off their game, but Senegal did play quite well. Someone at work here mentioned that France was probably flat because they did not have to play qualifiers since they were the reigning champion, so the team might not have had enough time to gel together. We'll have to wait and see how they do against Denmark and Uruguay. Interesting now that France will likely have to play the Argentina/England winner instead of loser after group play.

The game was disappointingly one-sided. France was attacking all the time but could not break Senegal's defense. Love that Senegal goalkeeper

There are more g@y commentating they did but I could not hold myself laughing.

But keep in mind that this was group game. All teams will meet each other and the best two will proceed.

Secondly as some have already noted Zidane was missing (due to injury). Zidane is a must have for the French team, he is such a dominating player and nobody can replace him.

Thirdly almost all (except for maybe one or two) of the Senegal players play in the French pro soccer league and they have a French coach.

Having said that, congrats to Senegal!

African nations have won world youth, Olympic football competitions, and perfromed admirably in the last two World Cup tournaments. It's time for an African nation to win the FIFA World Cup!!!

nations in africa have little to do with state boundaries... western europe is one of the few places you actually have nation-states. they tried to make eastern europe that way after WWI and WWII but theres still quite a few multi-national states there. they should change the name to the state cup or country cup.
