Its true, Montgomery Ward is shutting down

I never knew what they reall selled, I missed Fedco, you guys konw that store, it was such a family store, me and my family would go there together, but they closed down 2 years ago

I remember Fedco in Pasadena. I used to love going there because it meant I was getting a new Nintendo game. WOOHOO! Good old days.

The mall in my area was just remodeled. Inside is a big, brand-spankin' new Monkey Wards. Oh well I never go in there anyway...

So it is death to the Monkey. No loss. They killed off a good local chain a few years back--Lechmere. They were Best Buy before Best Buy. Knew the end was near when they moved out a fifth of the store to sell beds. THAT sales associate was the Maytag repairman of the store---NOBODY ventured near him. Six months later the chain took two in the hat from the Monkey.....🙁 I have to wonder how many of those Mensa students went to work for Bradlees---another local walking dead chain now in clearance mode forever...

good riddance! Ward's ranks right down there with jc penny's, sam goody, and software etc. in my book of places where I don't spend money.

GEMCO.... boy, that brings back memories. Pomona GEMCO for me.

My personal opinion (watch out, this may get locked😉), retail is dying a slow and painful death. Certain types will make gains forward... those types of retail like the SUPER store - Costco, WALMART, Home Depot, etc. But other types like Sears, Pennys, even Kmart... fell, forget about them. All that merchandise sitting on their shelves and racks isn't making them money (moving at the rate it does). To much $$$ these days to lease that kind of space without the sales to back it up.

<< Montgomery Ward's is sort of a lower quality Sears. >>

LOL, Sears isn't exactly a top notch store either. 🙂
