Yes, it's that time again... I got my 60gig hd back up on campus, and I'm ready to get some new bands.

Any genre, nevermind how old, but they have to have talent.

Jawbox. Great indy-rock band that went the way of the dodo when their label f*cked them over. "For Your Own Special Sweetheart" is probably the album you're most likely to be able to find as all their stuff is out of print now.

Does Thievery Corporation still count as unknown? How bout Desmond Williams or anyone else on the ESL label? What about People Under the Stairs and other acts on Quannum Records?

EDIT: Forgot local college acts Sankofa and Jupiter Coyote

They're a national act, but they still haven't had a whole lot of exposure as far as I know. Mad at Gravity is awesome. Unfortunately, the singer left the band yesterday, but their CD "Resonance" is incredible.

A really good local act is Dezeray's Hammer. Should be able to find them on your favorite P2P program.

Jazzanova (German downbeat electronica outfit, one of the pioneers of the lamely titled 'nu jazz' genre... kickass bossanova infusions)

Ari Hest (Male Singer/Songwriter, in the John Mayer vein... but different. Definite up-and-comer)

Holly Cole (Vocal Jazz - for you Norah Jones fans looking for something similar)

The Datsuns (Vines/Hives/Strokes/White Stripes---eat your hearts out!)

Nickel Creek (Prog-Bluegrass!!!)

Michael Hedges (my guitar idol.... co-founder of the "New Acoustic" movement of the early 80s)
