Its Thursday - Do you know where your congressperson is?

If you want to talk to members of Congress on a Thursday or Friday, don't bother going to Capitol Hill.

Try Reagan National Airport, where they've probably already picked up a snack near the boarding gate for their flight back to their home districts.

Democratic leaders promised when their party regained control of the House three years ago that lawmakers would work five-day weeks.

But that plan apparently didn't work.

"We will, then, not plan to be here on Friday. I know that disappoints all of you," House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said to applause and groans on Thursday.

But a recent analysis found that after a fairly energetic first half of this year, the House has settled into what Politico calls a "rather leisurely routine" of two-and-a-half day workweeks.

I guess now that peace has been achieved. Iraq and Afghanistan are pretty much like the Hamptons. Economic crisis is over. Unemployment is under control. Healthcare is free and covers everything. I guess the only logical conclusion is 2.5 day work weeks. Can we cut their salary by 50%?

Maybe a couple people could stick around and actually put the Healthcare bills up on the website? Nyah. That would be too difficult.

I'll save most of you the trouble and post the most common responses here:
Troll!
But the Republicans...
Bush is a war criminal... (Have to assume Harvey will post)
Racist
Faux News!
Rush Limbaugh...

But seriously. We keep hearing about people dying the in the streets, healthcare in shambles, etc... Shouldn't these people be WORKING at least 5 days a week? (Democrats AND Republicans)

They should be working longer hours. But to answer your question, my Congressperson is a Republican, a religious conservative, a male, never married, and never had a girlfriend. It wouldn't surprise me if he just stayed in the airport all weekend.

Of course they should be working more. That's not a partisan issue; stop trying to frame it as one. How is you going "Bu-bu-bu-but Pelosi..." any better than a Democrat saying "bu-bu-bu-but Bush?"

I'm glad to see Congress out. It's kinda like with MA one Senator down, I'm feeling better about our representation than ever.

When Congressmen go back to their district, they don't just sit around the house, knitting

Too bad they just don't stay in their home districts 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. We'd all be much better off if they did.

It would make sense that in times like these that Congress should be working harder but the sad truth is the less they work the less they fuck up.

I wonder if there is a quote out there from you saying that about Bush and his 'vacations'. Too bad the search feature sucks.

Who cares? I'd rather pay them not to come up with more asinine laws and bills than to do so.

Hey, give 'em a break. A lot of 'em have mistresses back home - or friends to see in airports. Others need some time away to rest up for their dc mistresses.

(I'm not really trying to be sexist. I just couldn't remember the male counterpart to mistress.)

There's a difference between the President and a Congresscritter. Also, Bush was tracked a little more closely by cameras than the average Representative or Senator.

P-town represent!

Although, I thought I was being vague enough that it could apply to many Republican Congressmen.
