It's that time again...cheapest place to get ON Whey?

I don't buy ON Whey, but TrueProtein.com sells whey protein concentrate starting at $5.39/lb. I've only ordered from them once, but they have very competitive prices, you can order by the pound, and they offer a lot of different products. They also sell flavor packs so you can just buy a bunch of unflavored powder and mix whatever flavor in you want, as well as how much you want. If you choose to do that you could just buy their Recession Whey Protein which is either $4/lb or $3.80/lb depending on whether you buy the 25 or 50lb bag. Then just buy whatever flavors you want to go along with it. You can also make custom mixes as well, choose what sweeteners are used, choose whether you get a jug or a bag, etc.

I've only ordered from them once, but I am definitely going to continue buying from them for all my future protein needs. They also have good deals on fish oil. Last time I checked you could get 1000 caps for under $25.

That stuff looks good. I bought some ON Natural Whey in the Chocolate Flavor and think it's pretty good. I like how the American Whey and the ON Natural don't have much sugar or artificial sweeteners either...can't stand that sucralose stuff.

Sams Club has EAS... 5lbs for 25$
that protein isn't as good. its a blend of other proteins. if your working on gaining muscle mass i would stay away unless your desperate.

Vitaglo - $67.99 with free shipping for 10 lbs.
for optimum gold standard 10lb vitaglo has a warning at the bottom of the page that if the protein bag arrives torn it isn't their fault. have you ever had a problem with this?

^^^ Actually blended proteins are better in most cases. Pure ionized whey is great post training with simple carbs. Otherwise a slow sustained release of nutrients is preferred...

Even a casein/whey blend has recently been shown to be better than a pure whey product post-workout.

Whey protein has been shown to stimulate protein synthesis with no effect on protein breakdown, while casein has the opposite effect - no effect on protein synthesis, but inhibits protein breakdown by providing a continuous supply of amino acids. Pair this with carbohydrates for an insulin spike and you have the ideal post-workout meal, effecting both protein synthesis and breakdown positively.

Unfortunately I can't find the study I was looking for, but here is a post by Alan Aragon with a few studies and his own thoughts.

You can achieve the same thing by mixing the whey with milk and/or other slower-digesting foods.

Blended proteins are also much more expensive than whey only products, which can also be a factor in many people's decisions.

they discuss casein and whey. and i agree with all of their finds. it doesn't apply to the problem of sams club eas protein.

its partly my fault. i should have been more specific when i said the word "blend."

here is some more info on sams club / costco's eas protein and how you should stay away from it:

http://www.professionalmuscle....showthread.php?t=27574

check the label. its better to have 100% whey isolate then to have a mix of whey concentrate and soy protein.

Soy protein, not the best but is still pretty good

I can't believe I'm defending EAS - as I despise their original owner.
That said, I heavily use the version sold at Costco. It's not the only "supplement" I use, but I use it at least 6 times a day mixed with skim milk. Best bang for my buck IMO.
Judge the results for yourselves: http://www.myspace.com/powerbuilder333
Personally I think if you're consuming 400 + grams of protein a day, (and training your guts out) the micro nutrient profiles become moot...

Although the EAS whey from Costco is not a bad deal, I believe that choosing one brand of whey protein over another isn't going to have any meaningful impact on someone's results in the long run. Although your pics are certainly impressive, saying that they are the "results" of choosing EAS whey as opposed to any other brand of whey is extremely misleading, especially when you admit to using other "supplements".

On the other hand, you say the micro nutrient profiles become moot once one is consuming an adequate amount of protein, which I agree with, so maybe you aren't trying to imply that your choice of one brand of whey protein instead of another has any meaningful impact on your results.

its not the brand its the type. the eas bag at costco a mix of whey and soy. lots of people see this deal. does your costco have the eas blend or the 100% whey?

pretend you only have 2 protein shakes a day. 1 in the morning and 1 after working out.

would you rather have let's say

24g mix of soy + whey protein

or

24g whey of protein?

i would actually like to know if i've been mislead because that would be a huge saving for all of us.

a lot of people say it taste really bad and it doesn't mix good. is this true?

I would prefer the 24g of pure whey, but I wouldn't pay twice as much for it. As a side note; whatever ingredient is listed first has the greatest percentage of it in the product. i.e. whey + soy (EAS at Costco) would be better than soy + whey.

Special K's second paragraph correctly addresses my point. I definitely DON'T endorse EAS brand. If I found a cheaper protein powder source with similar taste and mixability I'd switch in a New York minute.

If I was to give credit to any one nutrient it would be skim milk, with fat free cottage cheese (natural source of whey) a distant second...

my costco used to have the pure whey, which i liked, especially for the price, and now has the combined kind. i think sams club may still have the pure whey, not sure though.

I've been ordering my whey protein isolate from allthewhey.com but have been getting rashes due to it. What's the next best thing to whey that I can eat on a consistent basis that is about the same price. Soy whey maybe?

On a separate note, what do you guys think of the "limited edition" ON flavors that come in the 1 lbs. tubs? I just recently tried out a couple with mixed results. I LOVE the Caramel Toffee Fudge! Mix it with skim milk and you've got the closest thing to a milkshake that I've had. I also tried the root beer, which is kind of meh. I'd highly recommend the Caramel Toffee Fudge. To give you a frame of reference, my favorite regular flavors are Rocky Road and Cookies and Cream and my least favorite by far is tropical punch. Yech!
