So I'm standing on the back deck during this lightning storm (real smart huh?) with my old ass digicam (1.3mp olympus D-460).

The pics suck, but I actually got some lightning shots.

again, they are crappy pics, but I'm just thrilled to get some streaks... :)

Okay, that's a really crappy pic, and your camera has many, MANY stuck pixels.

I added the rest. Yeah, I noticed the bad pixels. I might just need to clean the lens :)

I was just shooting random pics of the sky during this storm hoping to get some streaks without getting struck :), and got these 4 (out of 40+ pics of dark sky).
Just noticed the bad pixels today with the dark sky background, never noticed them in the past.

#4 was pretty close, I bet that one rocked your ear drums.

Looks like all were Ground to Cloud strikes. Most folks believe lightning comes from the Clouds to ground but most of the time it is the reverse.

Yeah, I was getting concerned standing out there.... it was getting closer the second. Wish I had a better camera.

as far as i understood... the lightning happens because there are (for lack of a better word) streamers that stem up from the ground, and the bolt of lightning starts in the sky, and goes down and meets the closest streamer. therefore, they meet mid-sky and then the energy flows from cloud to ground and vice-versa a few times.... hence the flashing effect you get when watching the lightning.

You must be in Eastern NC, right? I saw those bad thunderclouds pass by when they were still babies hours ago. As soon as they pass Greensboro...lookout!

Had a really bad storm here last night. Hail, high winds, heavy rain, the whole 9 yards. Ut blew this poor bird out of the tree. It landed in the yard and was kind of hopping along against the wind. The wind blew it away.
