<< I guess you gotta go 20 or so miles to get to the snow in Dec/Jan - too bad its poor for snowboarding. >>

It's about 20-30 miles by the way the crow flys.... or by way of the nene, since there are no crows here. The actual drive to Haleakala is more like 2 1/2 hours from here. And you're right, the little snow they get isn't very good for snowboarding. They do more of that on the Big Island.

<< Did any of that big NW swell make it to Maui? - should still be some leftovers for today >>

Looking out the window right now and it doesn't look too big :(

IBhacknU,I was speaking "as the nene flies" if it decides to go in a straight line.

I guess the best surf for Oahu was Fri-Sat. Maui doesn't get the NW so well.

Expect something more solid the end of the first week of Nov (6-7). N. California is getting the big surf right now.

Some of my friends used to snowboard the Big Island - a lot of work if you ask me.

It snowed here in Tampa on January 14th, 1977. A whole quarter inch! I have never been so excited in my entire life.

Unfortunately, I had the teacher from he11 that year... she had some personality problems and wouldn't let our class go out and play in it, like the rest of the teachers were doing. She made us do our classwork first, and by the time we were done, the snow had melted.

:(

Funny how that is such a vivid memory to this very day.
