couple inches on the ground already. Most I seen here in many years. Guess I'm not going to work tomorrow. :)

Businesses close for a couple inches?! Oh noooes! Snow! It's the end of the world!
Pathetic.

Some businesses will be closed. Most will open. I'm the owner so I decide if I want to work or not. ;) I'm staying home to play in the snow with my daughter. It's her first real snow so she's excited. I promised I help her make a snowman. :)

Good plan. Well, as long as your business isn't a hardware store selling the only shovels in town. :p

You mean snow shovels;)
Most people in these parts have a shovel for each member of the family, due to the occasional devastating hurricane.

The majority of the (deep) south's road maintenance crews lack the specialized equipment to deal with any significant accumulation. Add that most drivers in the deep south have experienced accumulated snow only a small handful of times (when not traveling) and one has a very dangerous situation on the roads, which is why elementary / middle schools cancel when there is a significant (by local standards) accumulation. Almost all businesses, AFAIK (I have only seen an accumulation here about four times) remain open.

That being said, the fourth time is occurring outside right now:)

I've gotten out of school before because it *might* snow and then never did. Its not all like people in the south are pussies, more like that snow is some incredibly rare event that its more or less an impromptu holiday when it does occur.

EDIT: last time it actually snowed enough where I lived to really be a danger was in 1993 (12-18 inches) and 1995 (~5 inches, but it half melted and then refroze to ice for the next week and everything was covered in ice), so you can see that considerably sized snow falls are pretty rare.

It's a heavy wet snow as well, packs really good.

I wish I had somewhere to go as I enjoy driving in the snow. Perhaps tomorrow I'll go around.

Wow, somebody from my neck of the woods (literally)! I live in Murrayville, my wife went to NGSCU.

We ended up with almost 3 inches before it started raining/sleeting, there was about an inch when I went to work but nothing on the roads.

And yes, people are pathetic about snow around here.

I bet you classes will be closed on Friday as well due to freezing ice on the roads. Enjoy your 5 day mini break. :)

I love Dahlonega, GA. I drive up there every chance I get. Gorgeous area and lot of twisty mountain roads up there. Nothing better than going for nice drive up there early Sunday morning like 7am on a motorcycle or sports car when there's no traffic. It's like the mini Tail of the Dragon.

i'm definitely going to have to try this now that i have weekends free from Tech :) any suggested routes? right now sitting in my midtown apartment watching the flurries fall

unincorporated ;) heh, I drive through there all the time going to Gainesville.

as for routes, stick with 60. Go up 985 and take exit 23(?) and go left. Stay on that road for 30 miles and you'll go right into dahlonega.

Once up there for a fun drive you can just stay on 60, once you get past Dahlonega it gets pretty fun. For somewhere to go lookout I recommend going to Brasstown bald (look up the instructions) which is a very fun drive in itself. Just know it will cost a bit to park up there and theres about a mile hike to the top(paved) and once there your at the highest point in GA. On a good day you can see a very long ways out.
