I spent all night making country fried steak, but lost my recipe for the gravy, so tried to make it from memory. Well, after nearly two hours on the stove, the gravy still would not thicken--that's when I remembered that I forgot the flour. Note: adding flour at this point won't work too well; it looked and smelled edible enough, but I didn't have the nerves at the time to taste it. Well with no roommates around to test it on, I'm afraid I'm force to eat steak without gravy.:(

I would use one of those instant-gravy packs, for 59 cents and a cup of water, you cant beat it.

Find a tall building and jump, there's really no reason to go on.
Fortunately, I still have my cinnamon and rice creme brulee.

How do you forget the flour when making gravy
Well, I haven't made gravy in a while . . .

I would use one of those instant-gravy packs, for 59 cents and a cup of water, you cant beat it.
Instant what? Just because I'm a college student doesn't mean I have to be uncivilized.

Even if it's been years since you made gravy...there are only 2 needed ingredients...flour and water...the grease or oil and spices are just additives to give it flavor...

stonythug - ROTFL!

BTW - any steak that requires anything other than its own natural flavor is unnatural and a blight on humanity. The horror!

sandmanwake,

You gay, or what?

<< there are only 2 needed ingredients...flour and water >>

Lord Evermore,

Flour and water alone won't make much of a roux. You also need butter or lard.

Optimus,

It's not country fried steak without gravy. Technically, it's not steak at all.

This is like that "is it a network without a computer attached" thread... :) But yes, some sort of oily substance is probably required to get the correct consistency, but you could probably make a really bad gravy with just flour and water.
