It's really too bad that SetiDriver doesn't provide stats like SetiQ does

Don't you think? When I was using SetiQ, it gave me another stat to compare, but since I've been using SetiDriver to cache and run the client, I've been missing that extra stat. :( I don't know what the creator of SetiDriver is up to now, but has there ever been any talk of him starting a database?

FYI-- Setispy works exceptionally well with SetiDriver, and produces a bunch of stats.

FYI - I use SETIWatch with driver, works perfect and even will show you a star map!! Just copy the small setiwatch exe into the same folder and driver, make sure driver is set to create the log file (check box)...viola!...all the stats u need!

Robor, how do you get SETIWatch to keep the network passwords? Right now all my passwords are stored, so I don't understand why it's not working. When I add my P133 to SETIWatch on my C433, it'll work at first. But as soon as I reboot the computer, SETIWatch stops working for the P133. :(

...but setispy et al don't keep a database and rankings system of their users do they? setiq ranks all of its users. that's the stat i was talking about.

Sukhoi: Are you password protecting the shared folders? What I do on my clients is create a folder called "Data" (hey, it's better than SETI right?! :)), share it with full access and no password, then put the command line client and SetiLog in it. I create a shortcut to SetiLog, add the option switches (SetiLog.exe -proxy \\ntserverIPAddress:5512 /s), then run the client. I input my user info and watch it start. Then I ctrl-C it and copy the shortcut I created to the Startup folder and add the /h switch to hide it.

As far as adding it to SetiWatch I just add the share I created and give it a name so it's easier to tell who the client is.

Does that help?

Currently I have all the hard drives on my LAN shared, but password protected. I'll see if there's any way to have the drives password protected, but have the SETI folder on the drive not password protected. Maybe that will work. :)

Sukhoi: I started out trying to password protect the Seti@Home directory to keep nosey users out of it. I ran into the same problem you're having. My solution was to name the directory something bland and uninteresting, "Data" has worked so far.

Now if you've got NT machines that's another story. You can share the directory and assign permissions to only the groups/users you want. In that case I set the permission to myself and the Admins group. That way the machine I'm running SetiWatch can access it and everyone else will be denied.

Robor, it's between Win98SE and Win95A machines. I did get it working fine though. On the P133 I have the hard drive fully shared with a password. Then, I went in and separately shared the SETI folder with no password. This way when you open up the P133 in Network Neighborhood you see the SETI folder just like it was a separate hard drive.

how do you hide that dos box?

i really like setidriver because it's so easy. all i have to do is place a shortcut to the program in the startup folder and off it goes. i never even look at it any more. it's cool having a windows program do all the work for me rather than messing with the dos program and the gui/cli.

If you're using NT or Win2K, you can run it as a service. Sure would be nice to have a way to hide it in Win9x though.. :)

I think you can use a program called hide it to stick SETIQ in the systray.

Here's Hide it There's also a program called trayer (which I don't have a link to). I personally like hide it much better than trayer. The only thing I don't like about hide it is it leaves an icon in the system tray.

Trayer also leaves an icon in the tray. However if that bothers you trayer can hide the tray icon as well.:)
