It's really annoying when. . .

groups hold donation drives on Main Streets and they give you dirty looks if you don't donate.

Just today I drove down one end of my main street and gave five dollars for a fireworks fund. I came home a different way and saw a different person with a money bucket and they gave me dirty looks for not donating - they didn't know i had already donated five dollars on the other end of the street.

Shouldn't it be their responsibility to either a) give you a sticker showing that you donated or b) give you the benefit of the doubt by simply smiling?

Well, yeah. I do that from time to time but in today's instance I was in motion when the guy looked at me. I suppose I could have mouthed it to him.

Speaking of this, I volunteer my time for a music festival held in my hometown every year. I wear a shirt that shows this. This is a free festival, no admission charges so people walk around asking people to donate to the festival. It really irritates me when they walk up to me and ask I want to donate.......can't they see I am already donating my time as backstage security?

Just like bums, I do not give money to charities asking for it at a street corner.

I generally do, as it's one of the few vehicles for me right now to make a difference. The firemen are out once a month collecting for muscular distrophy. I mean, it's the least I could do, but I hate donating and then getting dirty looks at the other end of the street. It's highly annoying and it almost turns me off from giving them anything.

I feel bad when I can't donate. I'll usually throw what I can in a Salvation Army kettle for x-mas, but usually I am looking at my bank acct thinking how I am going to eat.
