At the end of the day the stock market will recover eventually - mostly because the market is the one that makes the demands, not the president. Also, if the stock market never recovers, I will have a lot more important things to worry about in life than retirement.
I like your all possibilities considered approach. As long as the market isn't Japan 2.0, it "should" recover. NIKKEI still hasn't after 25 years.
It's not so much a race as it is a "who wins the swing states" because the blue/red states are generally fixed. And Trump appears to be taking every swing state.
