Surely your not suggesting that students be allowed to visit:
General [M]ayhem General discussion forums at #12
Fvcked Company Off-topic message boards at #22,
ASP.net -2 RateMyBody Picture rating and dating website forums at #38, or
Overgrow Forums Marijuana growing discussion at #43...

While it's interesting to see the top boards, it's not a 'safe' list.

Nope, those sites aren't blocked

But your not listing what should be blocked, but what shouldn't. Do you think those site's shoun't be blocked because they are on the 'top' list like AT? (BTW, I'm just playing devil's advocate, I agree AT, and the forums shouldn't be blocked). In other words, are the OK for students to visit, just because are popular?
ever BEEN to genmay? Unless you want your high schooler to grow up to be a semi-retarded fast food jockey, he shouldn't be going there during school hours (or at all)

anand is OK, but some forums are just screwed up. Unfortunately, few of the people in charge bother to check what forums are good and what aren't.

Yes, but that's my point. The list is necessarly kosher just because it's a popular site. AT=ok for high school students (good moderation, though some bad content can be found for short periods), several others on that list are not (at least to be provided at school). The problem isn't the average content, it's the allowed extream content, sometimes not suitable for children. HS students are still a children, sure there are some adults at age 18 in their senior year, but that's a small percentage of the student body.

What do you think memory does to data?

pwn3d by a n00b!

Actually, the n00b assumed it was Gurck that thought this way. It seems that Phoenix86 (as well as a couple of other people in this thread) didn't read Gurck's post in a matter which would have allowed him/her to comprehend what Gurck actually said.

This is entirely what was said by Gurck: "I'm sure the 'blocking guru' is just some jockey doing what his boss, who has AOL and thinks memory is storage, is telling him to."

Phoenix86 response: "Memory IS storage, just like RAM and the HDD are BOTH memory. What do you think memory does to data?"

The n00b needs to learn how to to read and quote properly. :disgust:

Read closer... I'll explain since your understand of the written word is lacking.

He's making fun of the 'guru' who "has AOL and thinks memory is storage." Haha, funny, he uses AOL and thinks memory is storage. OK, lets analyze that.

Using AOL=funny
thinking memory is storage=correct, and... not funny... However since Gurck *thinks* it's funny, he obviously believes that memory ISN'T storage.

I mean I'm NOT an English major, I can't speel well, but I can comprehend a message. BTW I fixed your spelling errors in bold. Don't throw rocks in a glass house.

AT was blocked at work but then they did some proxy changes and it became unblocked. It's still blocked on some proxy servers btu not on others.

This is what we have:

http://www.securecomputing.com/cgi-bin/filter_whereV301.cgi?lang=en

The entire internet is classifed and companies choose what categories to block... "Chat" is blocked for me, but for some reason anandtech does not qualify though lots of other sites do (including bigboard)... try your favorite websites and see what it gives you.

And if anyone submits anandtech to be classified, I will kick your a$$ and thousands of people will lose access... you don't want that, do you now?
