You're a damn fool.

Sure, I COULD spend $1000+ a month on a car + insurance.

I'm not stupid enough to do it though.

Nice ride, but you've just enslaved yourself to a car.

Do yourself a favor & go spend $10 on The Millionaire Next Door. They devote an entire chapter to the car buying habits of the truly wealthy.

You are well on your way to becoming a classic UAW.

He's young, he can afford it. Let him learn it the hard way 🙂

For a 20yr old, savings so you can retire at 45 is the last thing in their mind. For me, that $1000/mo can goes toward car or additional principal in my house so I can fully own it in 5 more years. Its no contest 😛

My whole point is that he can't truly afford it. Being able to get financing for something and being able to truly afford it are two totally different things.

I'm 20 as well, & saving for retirement is definitely in my mind. Even if it wasn't, spending in the neighborhood of $1000 a month on a car is absolute insanity.

He is happy he got a new car.

Why do you post your rig in your signature? Obviously you are proud of it and want to tell others about it.

whooa.. the 1200 was a worst case scenario AFTER the car, the insurance, and gas.

looking at what things are going to cost me im going to have around 1300-1400 AFTER the car to live, christ.

i have a decent job and i know how to manage my money, settle down folks 🙂

one of you had it right.... someone else did too. i live at home, i plan on saving that 1400 a month for about a year or two then moving out. worst case scenario ill have to watch my spending and ill have plenty to fall back on.

think im a loser? think its ok? envious? in any case it doesnt matter 🙂

Some of us here are trying to help you see the light. You're screwing your future over a car.

And yes, living with mommy & daddy & driving a car that takes nearly 50% of your take home pay makes you a loser.

I still think that's stupid. Spending nearly $1000 / month for a car is something I wouldn't do even if I was earning $8k/month (pretax) -- and I used to get paid that much!

Good thing Florida is cheaper to live in and you live at home! I'm still in college (1 darn year left) -- but I left for a year and was getting $104K in the bay area (made a deal with IBM, long story)... and guess what I drive?

a MK III Supra that was $1500 or, two months of your car payments. Insurance is a lot cheaper, too, and I have money to deal with maintainance. I do have to pay rent, and I am going off to CA again this summer... and then I have more tuition to pay next year... but I am earning $15K this summer. I am also paying for all my expenses / college, too. Maybe that extra $30K I've been plunking each year makes a huge difference.

Maybe dropping out from college would have been better to do than coming back here and spending more tuition money... grr... okay, I'm slightly jealous too.

BTW, I do remember what it's like to have your priorities.

When I was 18 I was making about what you are now. I wanted a C5 Corvette. I was completely willing to drop $1000 a month on a car payment & insurance. Luckily at 18 my credit was too new to qualify for anything more than $10K or so for a car.

I am FOREVER grateful that I was not able to make that purchase, & tried previously (when you posted threads about buying a Boxster) to convince you otherwise.

Guess it doesn't matter now.

Right... but he's probably going to get laid more than you. And if anything, he's definitely got a better car then you.

Not hard to drive a better car than me considering I'm too blind to legally drive.

As for the getting laid, that's pretty much a given - Only one person I sleep with & she lives across the country. At least when she's here I live by myself instead of in my parents' basement.

Why live off by yourself when you don't have to? Some people have parents that actually care about them and don't kick them out at the first sign they can. Instead of working his ass off and living independently, he can use that money for more productive thing... like a nice car. Some people's priority isn't to leave the nest and their parents as soon as they can... but to establish themselve before taking that step. Nothing 'loser' about that.

Remember, you only live once. Especially at a young age. 😉 Have fun with your new Boxter.

I actually have a friend that's 31 years old that still lives at home... he owns his own restaurant, just bought a PENTHOUSE condo in one of the most prized area in Canada (Dundas Square in Toronto, in imitation to Time Square in New York) for just under $400,000, but even before the first brick is layed, it's already worth over $500k, just bought a new car for $50k last month. Is he a loser for living at home? He has no need to, not unless he gets his gf's parents permission to marry him.

Living at home and using the extra cash to buy a Porsche...

Amen to that. And thanks a bunch Mom & Dad

obviously you value money and materialistic things rather than personal freedom.

Who gives a flying fvck how someone else spends their money? As long as he doesn't default on loans and raise the rates for me, power to him. Enjoy the car!

Personal freedom? Who says you can't have freedom living with your parents? Some of us actually have parents that are understanding.

Just because somebody lives at home doesn't mean they adhere to the parent's schedule. Geez, you people really are this clueless to how life works beyond what your life is?

And what's wrong with having sex in your house? You really think your parents never did it while you were in the house?

you plan on saving $1400, plus making $850 in bills every month? I have to know what you are doing as a 20 year old and how much you make so i can be jealous.
