**It's OFFICIAL NOW!!** ESPN NFL 2K5 only $19.99 for PS2 and XBOX

If anyone has been keeping up with the football gaming scene, you'd know that Madden is a top-seller each and every year. You'd also know that there are many viable contendors to Madden's crown, including Fever (skipping 2005 year), NFL Blitz, and Gameday (also skipping 2005 year). The one most critics cite as being equal or superior to Madden is Sega's ESPN NFL series (formerly known as NFL2K).

ESPN NFL (NFL2K) has had tough times catching up with Madden, even though many feel it's just as good. In many aspects, ESPN is argueably better than Madden, but they've never gotten even close to selling as many units as Madden.

Well, a good rumor has it that the upcoming ESPN NFL 2K5, released on August 24th (2 weeks after the new Madden), will retail for only $19.99. What are my sources, you ask? Try EBGames or Gamestop. Here's the Gamespot article that explains kinda what is going on.

I was kinda torn on what football game to get, with ESPN adding all kinds of awesome features, but with a $20 tag, I'll be getting both Madden and ESPN this year if this price holds up.

BIG EDIT: It's official now!! Gamespot article. Save up just one big $20 bill, and you'll be able to buy one of the 2 best football games coming out this year!

Why are you eyeing? If you're implying this should be in hot deals, it's not a confirmed price yet. It seems to be, but it could fall under the "too-good-to-be-true" category.

NCAA 2005 😛

ncaa series has got to be the best all around game.
i had ncaa 2004 and i loved it. granted i didnt have madden, but it was nice.
i traded it in for nba 2k4, big mistake. im a basketball fan, but there r too many bugs

The future looks even brighter for the new ESPN to be $19.99, even with a possible release date of late July instead of late August as previously announced.

EBGames.com has the new price point of ESPN as the main draw on their page, as well as Gamestop having it on their front page as well. Both list the release date still of 8/24, but we'll see about that as time goes along.

**YMMV** From what I've read over at espnvideogames.com, it seems as if this $19.99 price point is almost certain, but for those who are still wary, you can preorder the game. But listen closely, if you pre-order, and only put, say, $5 down, and the price goes up to $50 later, you will be charged the new price. BUT, if you go ahead and prepay the whole $19.99 +tax, the computers should list you as paid in full (with both EB and GS), and you should not have to pay any more money when going to pick it up. This is solely based from what I've read, so YMMV.

ESPN Baseball is the worst baseball game ever. I hate the ESPN brand. I want NFL 2K5, NBA 2K5 and World Series Baseball 2K5.

I was reluctant to purchase the game since I'll be leaving the states in late August, but if the release date gets bumped up to July, I'm all in...

i think the price point will be a problem for casual gamer. person walks into store, see $50 madden and $20 espn, thinks company skimped on espn and made a cheapo version...

although i'm rooting for them to succeed. not only for sake of toppling madden, but also, if they are a great success, it could start a trend of lower price points for new games.

Well put in both regards. Hopefully, since Sega doesn't seem to mind throwing money away, they'll invoke a nice advertising campaign to go with it to let the "casual" gamer know about the situation.

Let's hope Sega sells a million or two of ESPN, and hopefully, like you said, start a trend in top-notch games at budget prices at release.

BTW, I read that Sega actually used the XBOX as their main development box this year. And you owners of Xbox know what they means for the graphics... 🙂
