"It found that even though hybrid owners save on gas and greenhouse gas emissions, they drove 25% more on non-work related trips." does that mean they drove 25% more total or of their non-work related trips 25% more? In any case, my last vehicle purchase realized me a massive reduction in fuel consumption and miles driven have only gone up because I've decreased use of my guzzling second vehicle. It's been a total win.http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2009/07/study-hybrid-owners-drive-more-get-more-tickets.html
They drive ~25% more, and going from a ~35 mpg car (small sedan like a Civic for example) to a ~50 mpg car brings it much closer to the 25%. I did exaggerate in my statement and misspoke, but most people going to a hybrid (from my experience) seem to usually come from stuff in the 30 mpg range.
