KINGS ACQUIRE CUTTINO MOBLEY AND MICHAEL BRADLEY
DOUG CHRISTIE GOES TO ORLANDO TO COMPLETE THE TRADE
Team places Erik Daniels on the Injured List

January 10, 2005

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Sacramento Kings acquired the services of Cuttino Mobley and Michael Bradley in a trade with the Orlando Magic in exchange for Doug Christie, it was announced this evening by Kings President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie.

?I think it was a great opportunity to get a player like Cuttino who can really score and break people down defensively,? said Petrie. ?We just thought it was an opportunity going forward to really get better. In Doug we?re giving up a very proven performer, who we?ve all had a great relationship with here. He?s been part of some of the most exciting times this franchise has had.?

Mobley, a 6-4, 215-pound guard, who is currently in his seventh season in the NBA and first with the Magic, is averaging 16.0 points (.432 FGs, .464 3FGs, .797 FTs), 2.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.0 steals per game through 23 contests (21 starts) for Orlando.

?It?s a tough day for me,? said Kings Head Coach Rick Adelman. ?Doug?s been such a huge part of our success since I?ve been here. It?s going to leave a big void, but sometimes you have to make deals to help the team.?

Selected by the Houston Rockets in the second round (42nd overall) of the 1998 NBA Draft out of Rhode Island, Mobley spent his first six years in the league as a member of the Rockets, appearing in 436 games while averaging 17.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.21 steals per game.

In Rockets? history, Mobley ranks second in three-pointers made, seventh in steals, eighth in minutes played, ninth in points scored and 10th in three-point field goal percentage. He made a career-high 164 three-pointers in 2003-04 along with registering a career-high 3,229 minutes.

Mobley was named to the 1998-99 Schick All-Rookie Second Team after averaging 9.9 points and 2.5 assists in 49 games, making 37 starts at point guard. He finished second in voting for the 1999-00 NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award in his second NBA season.

The Magic acquired Mobley in a trade, along with Kelvin Cato and Steve Francis in exchange for Tracy McGrady, Juwan Howard, Tyronn Lue and Reece Gaines on June 29, 2004.

Bradley, a 6-10, 245-pound forward is currently in his fourth NBA season, averaging 0.8 points and 1.8 rebounds per game for the Magic over eight outings.

Selected in the first round (17th overall) of the 2001 NBA Draft by the Toronto Raptors out of Villanova, Bradley enjoyed his best season, statistically, in his second campaign when he averaged 5.0 points and 6.1 rebounds through 67 games.

Christie, a 6-6, 205-pound guard-forward, is currently in his 13th season in the NBA and fifth with the Kings. He has played and started in 31 games this season for Sacramento, averaging 7.3 points, 4.9 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 1.39 steals per game. Christie currently ranks among NBA leaders in assists (T-29th), steals (T-29th), and free throw percentage (10th, .893, 50-of-56).

Named to the NBA All-Defensive First or Second Team for four consecutive seasons (First Team in 2002-03, Second Team in 2000-01, 2001-02, and 2003-04), Christie has played an integral role in the Kings? recent success over the past six seasons. He has ranked among the NBA?s top five in steals in seven of the last eight seasons and is the only player to rank in the top five in each of the past four campaigns.

Originally selected by the Seattle Sonics in the first round (17th overall) of the 1992 NBA Draft, Christie has played in 792 career games with the LA Lakers, New York Knicks, Toronto Raptors and Kings. He ranks second in steals in Kings? franchise history.

Additionally, the Kings placed forward Erik Daniels on the injured list.

Magic Acquire Doug Christie from Sacramento

Jan. 10, Orlando, FL ? The Orlando Magic have acquired guard Doug Christie from the Sacramento Kings in exchange for guard Cuttino Mobley and forward Michael Bradley, General Manager John Weisbrod announced today.

Christie (6?6?, 205, 5/9/70) has played and started in 31 games this season for Sacramento, averaging 7.3 ppg., 4.9 apg., 4.0 rpg. and 1.39 stlpg. in 32.1 minpg. He has led (or tied) the Kings in assists nine times, scored in double figures in 10 outings and has at least one steal in 21 games (13 with two-or-more). Christie currently ranks among NBA leaders in assists (T-29th), steals (T-29th) and free throw percentage (10th, .893, 50-of-56).

?We felt that Doug (Christie) was a perfect fit for the chemistry of our team right now,? said Weisbrod. ?He?s a tremendous passer and defender, he?s accustomed to playing in an up-tempo offense and he brings valuable playoff experience. Cuttino (Mobley) is a very difficult piece to give up ? one of my favorite people ? but we needed to use our depth at shooting guard to fill the areas in which we?re deficient.?

Christie has been named to the NBA All-Defensive First or Second Team for four consecutive seasons (First Team in 2002-03; Second Team in 2000-01, 2001-02 and 2003-04). He has ranked among the NBA?s top five in steals in seven of the last eight seasons and is the only player to rank in the top five in each of the past four campaigns. Entering this season, Christie ranked 17th on the league?s all-time steals average leaders.

Originally selected by Seattle in the first round (17th overall) of the 1992 NBA Draft, Christie has played in 792 career games with the L.A. Lakers, New York, Toronto and Sacramento, averaging 11.5 ppg., 4.2 rpg., 3.7 apg. and 1.90 stlpg. in 31.9 minpg. He has also appeared in 58 career playoff outings, averaging 9.5 ppg., 4.9 rpg., 3.8 apg. and 1.60 stlpg. in 32.7 minpg.

Mobley played in 23 games (21 starts) for the Magic this season, averaging 16.0 ppg., 2.7 rpg., 1.8 apg. and 1.00 stlpg. in 31.6 minpg. He led the Magic and ranks fourth in the NBA in three-point field goal percentage (.464, 58-of-125). Mobley was acquired from Houston as part of a seven-player trade on June 29, 2004.

Bradley has appeared in eight games with Orlando, averaging 0.8 ppg. and 1.8 rpg. in 6.9 minpg. He has been on the Injured List and missed 17 games this season (Nov. 12-Dec. 6; Jan. 1-8) due to a strained right hamstring.

I'd love to post my thoughts on the trade right now, but I'm just stunned. I think this was a fear a lot of Kings fans had in the preseason but it all died down, or so we thought.

Well, now that I recorded what I wanted to about it on the news. I dunno, I mean I guess in the long run it'll benefit the Kings, but you have to think the timing is horrible. Coming off arguably their worst road trip in the past 3 years they trade the only defense they have? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Geoff Petrie has usually been pretty good at finding us new talent (Mo Evans, Kevin Martin, Darius Songaila, the list goes on), and let's hope that when looking on this trade in hindsight, we'll be willing to make it again.

teams like seattle, phoenix, LAs (both of them) are going to have EVEN MORE of a field day with the Kings D.

uggh...

no way.

Kings scored Cuttino Mobley? Woohooo the season's looking up!

Why the hell did Orlando do this though? They're a much improved team. Maybe Stevie's going to play 2 guard?

For the opposing team's offense, maybe. There's still only one ball on the court, and now no one on the Kings knows how to stop it.

The Kings were never going to win with defense anyways. They won't win with offense only either but its some much needed change in the organization.

Guess his wife wanted a change of scenery
ahahahaha. for those unfamiliar, enjoy...

- Jackie Christie arrives before games with her husband and leaves with him afterward. She sends him a note in the locker room before each game, taken there by a team attendant. He writes a reply and sends it back. Sometimes on the road, Jackie will ride in a car behind the team bus, talking to Doug on his cellphone until he arrives at the hotel or arena.
- During Christie's time in Toronto, Jackie was uncomfortable that women working for the Raptors went into the locker room to distribute statistics after games. So Doug began dressing in an adjacent room.
- Jackie sometimes has made it clear to her husband and team employees that certain female reporters should not be allowed to interview her husband unless she is present. "If she wants an interview, I will attend it with my husband so there can be no games," she said.
- Reporters who cover Christie's former team, the Toronto Raptors, were so intrigued by the couple's sign language that they created a betting pool when the Raptors played at Sacramento last November. By their count, Christie signaled his wife 62 times during the game.
- With few exceptions, Doug Christie does not look at other women, avoiding dialogue or even eye contact. "Every conversation I've ever had with a woman since we've been married besides my wife she knows about," he said.
- The Christies, who have been married for eight years and have three children, get married on July 8 each year, their anniversary. It is not a mere renewal of their wedding vows, but an actual wedding -- replete with friends, family, cake and a reception.
- When Christie played for the Raptors, his wife once confronted a female fan seeking an autograph and a kiss in Toronto. "A security guard grabbed her, but I put my hand up and told her to back off really loud," she said. "It scared me, because my voice sounded like a demon. It just came out. She was a pretty girl, very young. But she was touching someone she shouldn't have been."

cliff notes: [cracking whip noise] doug christie is so p*ssy-whipped its not even funny. ok, maybe a little bit funny.

Please tell me this doesn't change the plans for the Doug Christie reality show that's in the works. God, if you can hear me, please please please.

This trade doesn't look good for both teams. On a more important note... Hehe thanks for more anecdotes on Doug Christie. I only knew of a few.

I've been glued to the TV waiting to hear his comment on it. To me it seems so surreal. I've been working on getting the Hornets game up and to watch him play and think his last game in a Kings jersey was as horrible as it was just makes me want to cry. Fvck his wife, she's not the one who plays defense and leaves her heart out on the floor everytime, DC is.
