That's exactly what happened. Plastic pencils are light enough to be dropped with minimal damage, but that Rotring was hefty. The first time bent it way over, but I managed to straighten it fairly well. I wasn't so lucky the second time. I'd get one again in a heartbeat if I had a desk job where I'd be less likely to drop it. I love the weight of those pencils :^)

The tips are NEVER right after bending. The lead breaks too much because the tube is not true. :(

They make good CPU pin straighteners. LGA makes it a moot point these days.

Zebra pens suck balls.
Rite in the Rain pens are awesome. Space pen insert, with a solid steel shell thats much tougher than the Space pen shell.

I always wondered what made the Rite in the Rain pens so damn awesome (I have one but only use it when out in appropriate conditions, on Rite in the Rain paper too - handy, when it is indeed raining or you're smearing mud everywhere you touch).
I had to look up the space pen, never really gave the Rite in the Rain pen much though.

For my typical daily pen use, I stick to my Pilot G2 0.38mm. Had 0.50mm pens for the longest time, could not stand them. Saw a finer tip (always loved the G2's comfort level), and easily my favorite pen I've used.
I do tend to stick to mechanical pencils with class note taking, as I am a sloppy writer, especially when writing fast like during class. But with the 0.38, at least I don't make big bold smears as I move my hand across the paper, and I am less prone to dragging the pen tip and making random marks everywhere.

They look good, and write good, but they get slippery as hell. I like free pens. They all aren't great, but you the occasional magical pen that writes great, and is comfortable to use.

They do get very slippery, especially when one is slaving away on an equation or a proof that one cannot get quite right and the sweat begins to require wiping. I switched to them a couple of years ago from ultra-low-end pencils and pens.

Supposedly, Cross has gone downhill big-time since then, but I must have a good pair as they have served we well. Plus, lifetime warranty, IIRC.

One thing that I do not like is the .5mm lead instead of .7mm (which everyone else seems to use).

As far as mainstream pens go, I prefer Bic mainly due to the fact that "the family business" has been royally screwed by Papermate alienating them and they had to switch their business over to Bic, who has treated them well. Oddly enough, a bulk pen order came through shortly after Papermate cut them off. More business for Bic;)

.5mm is all I use. .7mm is too fat. Do yourself a favor, and get some 2H lead. It's the perfect balance of durability, smear resistance, and darkness :^)

I have never used 2H lead, I will have to give it a go once my existing stockpile of Pentel refills is depleted. It would be nice if .5mm was more common, I keep a refill pack near me just in case as .5mm never seems to be readily available when I need it.

I use whatever fucking pen is close. The first one I grab is what I use. What the fuck difference does it make what you write with? If you're a moron, the best pen in the world will still put moronic statements to paper for you.

Wow... at this whole thread... wow.

I love good pens, and good stationary. However, my writing looks horrible. I gifted all my Zebras away at work. I can't appreciate them as well as others. I turned into a G-2 .7 guy.

I do crosswords, .7mm is a must. .5mm no matter what hardness will poke through the newspaper too easy.

For newspapers. I'd use an old fashioned woody. I really like wood pencils, and I wish I had more use for them.

Do you sketch? (Not draw, but sketch?)

I'm trying to find an example...like how people in the olden days drew out their thoughts in journals or during their travels.

No, not really. Most of the writing I do is technical. I love good pens and stationary, but I don't have much use for them. I almost bought a Pelican fountain pen once, but luckily I got some sense before I made the purchase. I love fountain pens, but a couple hundred dollars is too much money for something I'd use a few times per year.

I wish I was more literate(in the sense of writing), but it would be too forced. As much as I'd like to, it just doesn't fit my personality. I generally keep things in my head, and write very little down.
