it's not proper to take a 5 year old girl into the liquor store is it?

i stopped by this evening and behind me came a gentleman carrying a 4/5 year old girl on his arm in to buy vodka. i thought maybe he didn't want to leave her in the car by herself but he got into a van with a bunch of people after checking out. isn't that a bit inappropriate? and the cashier gave her a sucker!

I would do it without hesitation. As a kid I bought Fritos in the neighborhood liquor store pretty often.

Mmmm... Fritos...

Who gives a flying fuck? She'll get wasted anyway later on in life and no one will think anymore of it then you think of getting wasted and laid right now.

I doubt it's legal in most places, but they don't seem to care unless you're trying to pass for 21.

Was she trying to pass for 21?

I'd sooner take her into the store with me than leave her in the car alone.

it's probably not news to most people that grown-ups drink, and I can't imagine trying to completely shelter a kid from the evils of a 6-pack of Woodchuck is going to have super productive results.

I went in the liquor store lots of times with my dad when I was that young. They had a water fountain with rubber ducks and stuff that I would play with when he was at the cash.

They sell liquor at the supermarket here in California. I don't see the big deal quite honestly.

Why would it be illegal to enter a liquor store under the age of 21? If I remember, all the signs in a liquor state you need to be 21 to purchase liquor? And the only time you're carded is when purchasing.

I'm fairly certain it is in PA... I remember during that hellish year of college when I was 20 but all my friends were 21, I had to wait right next to the door while my friends bought liquor for me.

I don't think there's an age requirement to be in there. See my Fritos comment, above.

Edit:

Hmm, guess it varies by state.

Yeah... it doesn't really make much sense. I wasn't aware there were other states that didn't allow it to be sold in supermarkets other than here though. It's such a stupid law.

AFAIK, you don't need to be 21 to be in a liquor store. Hell, I'll be working at one this December and I'll only be 19.

Who cares if they took her into the store? As someone pointed out, she wasn't buying anything, and as a dad I wouldn't want to leave my kids in the car, I'd even make em carry the beer for me.

Better keep your kids out of Publix or any other supermarket then.

In fact, lock them in a room until they turn 21.

He's introducing her to the fantastic world of liquor at an early age, child prodigy perhaps!?

I don't know, but I'd guess it's to keep kids from stealing alcohol. I know it's against the law in Indiana, and I was asked for ID there before I attempted to buy anything. Pretty sure I've also seen signs at liquor stores in NJ that said it's against the law to enter if you're under 21.

Yeah, I flew to Michigan a bunch of years ago for the funeral of my Grandmother and I arrived on a Sunday but was surprised that you cannot buy beer on Sunday. God I hate Michigan...

Unless you live somewhere like I do, where the liquor stores are state-owned and it's illegal to sell alcohol in a supermarket or convenience store.

What? I went into the liquor store with my mom when I was little. I don't see any problem whatsoever, it's not like my mom was buying booze for me.
