So sorry for your loss. :(

Just read on saddle thrombus. Devastating prognosis.

http://www.petmd.com/blogs/fullyvetted/2010/may/saddle_thrombus_in_cats#.UggwT0C0M64

That's exactly it except it was shutting down her liver and gall bladder. She was in intense pain and her body temp was dropping. When I picked her up, her tummy was really cold. I thought it was from laying on the cement floor in the basement but obviously I was wrong.

I appreciate the link since it described my situation so well. The vet made it clear that they could keep trying this but the right thing to do was end her pain. The pain meds they gave her couldn't do that. When I said goodbye to her she was still howling from the pain. It was so sad.

Thanks for the support guys.

RIP kitty

you made the right choice Rudeguy, at least she's not in pain anymore.

the only time I've had tears in my eyes since I was a small kid was when I had to put my German shepherd to sleep, it's the burden of pet ownership.

Did you ever find out what was wrong?

Had to come home last summer to find the dog died while we were out, look like he just laid down for the final time and went in his sleep. Not fun dealing with the crying wife and trying to respectfully move a dormant 110 lb mass.

RIP.

I lost my cat of 11 years this year too. Had to put him down too. Was a truly awful experience.

I lost a cat a few years ago like this, he could barely breathe one morning and was having fits, vets couldn't do anything. Broke my heart.

Feel for ya man. Glad you didn't prolong it anymore than you had to, she is in a better place now.

Sorry, man. Not that it's any consolation but at least she went quickly.

It sucks, especially when they're in pain. My dog died of cancer almost 15 years ago. Symptoms didn't manifest until it was too late. Only time I've ever seen my dad cry. We never had another pet after that. Couldn't replace him.

Sorry to hear about the kitty op :(

Had a cat growing up, she would usually get pretty pissy whenever I tried to pet her. One morning she was sitting up and you could tell she was having trouble breathing. I got her some food and water, she didn't eat or drink any of it. As I sat there she reached her paw out and brushed her head up against my hand. I don't think she had ever did that. I guess she knew and decided to be nice to me in her final hours. Strangely enough even though the cat was usually an a-hole to me, I always liked her and was very sad when she didn't make it home from the vet that day.
