It's not job security, but...

It's sort of a good feeling when you see a look of sheer horror on your supervisor's face when you make an innocent comment that could potentially be construed as you are potentially looking to leave your job. (which I am not, nor was I trying to imply I was, and the look of relief when I had to stumble through trying to clarify that that is the farthest thing from my intentions was indeed priceless)

Haha... while I know there's literally no such thing as job security, considering I'm one of only two people that know and maintain this product inside and out, and the other one isn't too far from retirement, I don't think they're looking to replace me. If they were, I'd already be training my replacement.

I know what you mean. Our office is casual, and one day I decided to wear a shirt and tie just for fun. My manager was very concerned that I might be going for a job interview somewhere.

'Hey Sunny, I'd like you to meet Mr. Patel. He is our new intern, I'd like you to show him the ropes.'

The other guy is training your replacement.

You think too highly of yourself. They could have someone in your position that would be happy to do it for less money and do just as good a job. Don't underestimate how bad the job market is out there.

I've done this before at several companies. Freaks management out given I'm a jeans and t-shirt kind of guy.

I don't think very highly of myself at all.

That's why I'm taking several training courses offered by the company and bettering myself, as well as cross-"training" on other products as well. I know as well as anybody else that situations change at the drop of a hat. I am also keenly aware of what my management chain thinks and expects of me here as well - they're very appreciative that I'm willing and in the position I'm in here.

They could do it the other popular way - fire you, wait several months, then think about hiring a replacement, then try to remember what you originally did at your job, then hire the replacement.
