It's my last day at this job

And I'm stuck here overnight repartitioning a 4TB LUN. For the love of G-d people, use LVMs.

But on the bright side, I get to drive from Richmond to Raleigh Monday morning for my first day. At least I get a laptop.

Sounds like fun. I remember formatting a 40GB hard drive in windows 98, on a pentium 3. That took bloody ages. It's so funny now since TBs are pretty much the regular measurement for hard drives now. It's a massive amount of data when you think about it, yet we do manage to use it all. We found MP3's and porn on our san today lol. No wonder it's running low on space.

Well that's done, now I'm just copying 1.3TB worth of data over to my new logical volume. I used parted for the first time, so far I like it better than fdisk. It saved all of my data when I switched the partition label from msdos to gpt.

Yea but they still think he's the angry, vengeful God from the Old Testament. God is actually the merciful God from the New Testament. Everyone knows this.

I like mean god better. If you just read the bible like any old mythology book, the old testament is way more interesting to read than the new testament.

So why are you complaining? Partitioning a volume takes like 2 seconds.

e2fsck on a 1.7TB file system takes a long time.
resize2fs on a 1.7TB file system takes a long time.
mkfs.ext3 on a 2TB logical volume takes a long time.
moving 1.3TB of data from the old partition to the new LVM takes a long time.
