ummm, if something is "priceless" it cannot be replaced at ANY price. The ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, for example... This video card can be purchased for $1200. It is not priceless...

Use snappy and irrelevant comebacks.
You need an arsenal of all-purpose irrelevent phrases to fire back at your opponents when they make valid points. The best are:


You're begging the question.
You're being defensive.
Don't compare apples and oranges.
What are your parameters?
This last one is especially valuable. Nobody, other than mathematicians, has the vaguest idea what "parameters" means.

Regardless of of how insane the price went, at least there aren't a bunch of dickwads that didn't screw the guys auction up.

It's definately an expensive card and a luxury item, but still, it's the fastest card out there, not to mention the 72hour burn in, the certificate, next day replacement, etc. If I had the spare cash, that's the kind of thing I would blow it on.😛

Does anyone else find it amusing that the auction says that you cannot purchase this card, it has to be won in a weekly contest from eVGA, yet the "Certification of Quality" paper says things like "Thank you for purchasing..." and "...with your eVGA.com purchase..."?

If the bidders actually looked at the picture of the "Certification of Quality" paper that was so kindly provided by the seller, they would see that the card can in fact be bought (contrary to what the seller says in the description) and they could purchase it from eVGA.com instead of buying it from the seller for 3x the price.

The contest is for the right to purchase it; they only churn out 5 cards a week, so they use the contest as the way to decide who gets purchase rights.

I was unaware of this.....I stand corrected. I didn't really look at the eVGA page the first time because it looked like it was just a little write-up about the card with a specs and features list.

Yeah i saw that... and it's absurd to me, for somebody who wouldn't pay more than $300 for a card... but whoever bought it is either wealthy enough for it, or insane... in either case, nobody is forcing them, so no doubt he'll enjoy it.

I've sold some pretty absurd things on ebay, including an Everquest account for $1500USD... and that's for a GAME... for VIRTUAL character with VIRTUAL items. But the guy who i sold it to (an assistant professor), was happy as hell about the purchase (i spoke to him on the phone when i handed him over the account information).
 
That's a lot of money for a gaming card, but...

The person who bought it may not necessarily be stupid. Definitely a possibility, but not a necessity.

I deal with some clients who have an insane amount of money. Dropping $1200 on a toy is no big deal to these people. Dropping $10,000 on a toy is no big deal to these people. They just don't live in the same world as the rest of us working schmucks.
 
What about the people who spend $50-$200k on a car which has no purpose? (I'm talking about sports cars) And know I'm not dissing them because I too plan on purchasing one.
 
i dont even get why people would pay more than $250-300 on a video card? its extremely idiotic to go out and buy a latest gen card with features that arent even supported and most of all when they are peopel go out and just buy new one:\


u can get 9700pro for $130 avg and its still a pretty good performer with ati delivering latest video drivers!

I have a 9800Pro and think its old and outdated looking at benchmarks where the ATI X800 and NV 6800 own it...HL2, Doom 3 etc.....
 
I'm going to guess that there is a rich bastard out there with a fascination for gaming and computers who wants to beat the fastest fps of one of his buddies.

Or, one pathetic starving unemployed geek with the jones for gaming where he forsakes any of the outside world. He sits in front of his computer in his underwear not having bathed for weeks staring at screen with the cold blank stare like all the meaning of life was contained somewhere in the LCD only pausing from his gaming to occasionally post at ATOT.
