Have to give props to Ike for launching in marginal weather. Caught the Germans with their hosen down.

Time for every retard I went to high school with to get up on their Facebook soap boxes, as if without their help I'd have forgotten what today was.

why did those not open from the rear?

So you don't wade into much deeper water, now having to move the whole length of the boat, in deeper water, before you even get to where you would have started if you disembarked from the bow instead of the stern.

Next year will be the 70th anniversary of D-Day. Most of my family who were in the services during WWII are gone now. Both my grandmas, who were in the WAAF, are turning 90 this year. Only 21 and 20 respectively at the time of the Normandy landings. So young.

Not many family members were in the infantry. My granddad's brother (mom's side) was killed in Italy by German snipers. The rest served in the RAF. My granddad was stationed in India as an airfield firefighter. A few great uncles were bomber crew.

There's a few good docs out there. Ken Burns' "The War" is a fantastic series. The colour docs I've seen are also quite good. Colour footage just seems to have more of an impact than black & white.

Ok then, welcome BACK to the thread.

The fact that the quote was incorrectly attributed to both the wrong day and person has already been discussed. but you would know that if you read the rest of the thread.

He was obviously being fatuous. Eisenhower wasn't the president at the time and he wouldn't have called it "a date that will live in infamy".

Jesus Christ, does this really need to be explained?

If only Harry used the Force like Picard suggested when approaching Mt Doom...
