Yeah, another Oblivion n00b reporting in. 😛

So, if I WERE to be some kind of hero, that sort of SAVED the world/country/whatever, I'd ASSUME I'd get some notoriety or respect.

In this game, people go "OMG!!! YOU'RE HIM!!! Sleep with my daughter!!!" and then when you finish talking w/them, they say "Oh, I'm done with you."

No food or drink. No gold. No super-cool-secret bow/axe/shield/magic-thingee reward.

It's an awesome game...but the NPC AI needs some SERIOUS fine tuning.

I mean...in Ye Olden Days, the hero waltzed into town and slept with any woman he wanted to...and got paid for spreading his seed!!!

In this game, I don't even get a free beer. WTF? :roll:
 
Don't sweat it...after you become grand champion of the arena, you pick up a groupie who'll follow you everywhere.

LMAO @ some of the replies. 😀 Sorry, apoppin; I guess I did copy-cat your one complaint. I'm an Oblivion n00b...forgive me.

I do love the game...I just wish the NPC AI was a little brighter. I'd gladly give up some eye-candy processing power as a trade off. I can't see much eye candy anyway with my 800GTO. 😱

No more threads on Oblivion from me. Today, anyway. 😉
 
they had to really dumb-down the NPC AI . . . after you are done with oblivion, PM me and i'll link you to mods that allow you to see the 'real' AI . . . impressive!

and i was kidding about you stealing my one complaint . . . it is a genuine one . . . and it gets 'worse'. 😛
 
Real AI? The nudity patch, FTW? 😀 I'm afraid to load those patches...they always seem to screw everything up.

FWIW, I do LOVE the fact that the game loads so fast! The areas (from one room to another) load in just a few seconds, even on my single SATA drive, 1GB ram system. Valve could learn a few tricks from these Bethseda developers.
 
What, you don't like playing wheel of fortune for 5 minutes just so someone will give you a price break even though you just saved the town, rescued their daughter, are the arena grand champion, and went down to hades and won a boxing match against satan?

Valve might even learn to use shadows and lighting . . . which are MIA in aging Source Engine . . . how people can even compare the 2 engines is WAY beyond me . . . perhaps they are playing with DX8 HW. 😛

DON'T do ANY 'content' mods until AFTER you 'finish' . . . although there are exceptions.

you have been warned . . . some are ok {most are} . . . 😉

check out the real AI out . . . after . . . you will be impressed. . . . if you do it now, the NPCs become too aggressive with each other.

Go to any church and pray within the next 2-3 days... it's not really hard to avoid becoming a vampire.
 
why avoid it at all? 😛

playing as a Level 4 Vampire is Primal . . . you get a LOT added to your stats . . . PLUS it is a [good] Quest to get cured.

ALSO, don't become a vampire 'early' in the game . . . take your time and learn the places to 'hide' during the daylight.

On TOP of that is the Vile Plugin . . . which is PERFECT for vampires . .. i regretted getting 'cured' . . . then i just used a PC console command to get it 'again' . . . in an alternate 'line', Evil Vampire Maxx is killing ALL the Guard in Cyrodiil.

Being a Vamp was cool, stat wise, but I always seemed to need to walk a few miles in daylight to accomplish something. Then I would find a cave or fort to hide in during the day. I would then clear out the cave or fort (since I was there), only to find that I spent all night and it was morning again when I was ready to leave. Aaaargh! The quest t cure vampirism was pretty cool, though.

Best plug-in for me was the BTMod, which gives you smaller fonts in the menus (more items), and larger maps. The short grass mod was also nice.

I tried playing Morrowind again yesterday. I thought it had great graphics before I played Oblivion. Now it looks crappy and barren.
 
How do you hide indoors for X-number of hours if there is no bed/bedroll to sleep in? When you go to sleep, you say "Sleep for X-hours" with the slider. But how do you do that with no bed?

You don't literally sit there for 8 hours waiting, do you? :Q

How do you do this "real AI?" is it a plugin/patch? I'm already running the latest official patch, 1.3.
 
Press "T" . . you will get the "How Long do you want to WAIT?"

Just like sleeping - 'cept you are standing up and don't regenerate health. . . . 12 hours will pas in a few seconds . . .
. . . and an Oblivion "day" is 48 minutes. 😉

of course, you cannot 'wait' when enemies are nearby.

i would'nt mess with the AI . .. if you install that Mod you canNOT save ANY games while using it . . . it is just for 'fun'

 
Best advice is to become a vampire right away. It's kinda a pain for travelling but the boosted stats are really helpfull as a low level character. Being a vampire later in the game nets you none of the benefits since you can cast spells that are better.
