Its is recommended and safe to wait for cool card before shutdown pc?

Hey all. I want just to know. It is recommended and safe to wait to cool card after playing some game, before shutdown pc?

I mean wait 5 minutes after playing game to cool card to 30 - C and then shutdown pc? Or no matter what temp is on GPU ?

Unless you are at a high enough heat it is actively causing damage, just shutting off will be fine. Once electricity has stopped going into your card, it will stop generating heat. If it is already melting, at that point, even a shut down won't stop the damage immediately.

Shutting down immediately after playing a game will not harm your card.

Like smackababy said, it would have to be hot enough to already be causing damage for it to matter.

What if you have a water cooling setup where the water circulates from the CPU to the GPU. So, what if your CPU is superheating the water above boiling, and then that superheated water circulates to the GPU right as you power off. Then it could cook the GPU at that point, instead of getting pumped past the GPU?

Any temp is fine.

The short answer is no, there is very little chance of harming your graphics card in this way.

I've had a few cards with failed fans, and it took me a few reboots to realise what the issue was. Even then, the reason why the system shuts down is normally due to in-built protections in the hardware.

It's all mostly self limiting - if your pc hangs while playing a game then it's no longer playing the game, so it isn't running the cpu or gpu on max.

So yeah, just shut down normally.

PC's are not subject to damage from not having sufficient heat circulated away before being powered down. You have no reason to be concerned.

Even if it was right after you quit the game. There is still some time that the fan is running with the GPU at idle. And if your cooling is working properly, those temps should drop very fast. My Sapphire takes all of about 10-15 seconds to get back down into the 40's after gaming.

Heat soak is an issue (Ignore the comments above stating otherwise) that can effect PCB's and the components on them. However it typically is not an issue unless cooling is way designed for the amount of power being consumed. In which case you would have cooling issues in normal operation as well.

1. the die of the CPU and GPU should never get above 100C, let alone heat the water up anywhere near that

2. if your water is excessively hot, then you're not radiating it properly and you might as well be air cooled at that point

The water in water loops is not normally ever above 10C above that of the ambient temperature, ie around 30C maximum. If its boiling all your components have already burnt up long ago. I have had a pump fail and still not even remotely got near boiling point over the CPU.

You do not need to let the card cool, slowly letting it cool down rather than quickly via active cooling is likely going to be better for it, but we are talking a very long term period where repeated heat cycles might eventually cause a failure. Its just not worth worrying about just shut the computer down immediately.

You could even make the argument that slower cooling period, i.e., letting card passively cool without the fan, is less stressful on a microstructure level compared to rapid cooling cycle. The heat contraction would be more gentle if you just shut down without using the fans to pre-cool the card. But regardless, the cards are designed to handle the stress of rapid heating/cooling cycles.

You do not need to wait, it brings no benefits whatsoever and is completely unnecessary.

and if you are really worry use the shutdown command - shutdown /s /f /t 600 ( in seconds) and walk away, it'll power off once the timer is reach
