It's important to read correctly

There's a radio ad running here that has confused me for weeks. It's sponsored by the local AAA travel agency and it has one of their people talking up vacationing in Las Vegas. All through the commercial they talk about what a wonderful place LV is, and at the very end he says something which is just the opposite (the reason why I've been so confused). A couple of people at work noticed it too, and we were talking about how the commercial totally undermines itself at the very end.

He talks about how LV is a wonderful family place for a vacation, with so many things to do, blah, blah, blah. Then at the very end, he says, "So come and see for yourself, and Las Vegas will win -- over you and your family." Huh?

The guy has a weird cadence and emphasizes words strangely while talking in the commercial, like someone who isn't a very good reader. There are some pauses where they don't belong, as if he has to stop while going from the end of one line to the beginning of the other. And today it hit me. The pause in that last line doesn't belong. It should be "Las Vegas will win over you and your family!"

It's a ploy by the advertisers. By making something about an advertisment not quite right it sets your mind on edge. It makes you alert but not aware. It can stick in your mind much more effectively than a properly worded ad, heck you're talking about it with people you've never met:p It's best to just ignore it.

Ordinarily I might be inclined to agree, but the local AAA office just isn't that clever.

Maybe one of their employees took a class at the local community college or something. Or maybe they just had a guy with a speach impediment do their audio:D
