It's here. My new Sony SDM-P234/B 23" TFT

Actually the new sony that has 16ms should be using the same panel as the HP and benQ 23" lcds. and the BenQ model is a 16.7million color panel.

I'll trade ya for two 19" and one 17" crt's. That's a combined total of 55". How can you resist such an offer? 🙂

very nice, besides the HP 23", this is the cheapest 23" lcd on the market right now, which is a great deal.
I was about to get this for about 1700 US before I saw the BenQ version which I hear is slightly better.
Still trying to decide between the two, hopefully I will have enough money by the time I decide on one.

I considered the BenQ aswell. I basically went for the Sony as they said they would pixel check it for me before I purchased it. Having said that I found an online reatiler that said they would also pixel check the BenQ for me also before shipping it. For me, I really liked the look of the Sony just that little bit better.

Review here.

On the other hand, 1,699.00 GBP = 3,080.78 USD!

Your right, the price was a little harsh, but when you sort have made up your mind it's kin of difficult to change your mind if you know what I mean. 🙂

Nice monitor

I have the old modeler model of it. I have had mine for 20months now. Great monitor. Mine has 2x DVI and 2 x vga. But yours has the nice glowing Sony logo

Man I'd GET this one but I already have one

I got mine from the states for £2100 with import tax. At the time it was £2600 uk

How has the monitor been. Has it done everything that you expected it to do.

ALMOST as good as the apple 30". sorry, couldnt resist.

that thing is beautiful- far cry looks amazing on it.

Yeah the Apple was nice, but I wanted to keep the black theme if you know what I mean. And I didn't want to go into the realms of new graphics cards and all as Koing mentioned. Far Cry is amazing on it. It's a shame I made the mistake of choosing the hardest level and now I'm stuck mid point.. 🙂

That LCd owns all LCD's/monitors that exist EXCEPT the Apple Cinema 30" LCD, now thats an excellent LCD.

Hehe...gotta love the Apple. 😉

Very very nice!!! I'm jealous. That LCD looks sweet. But I don't envy the price tag.

I'm trying to get nice used 24" Sony FW900 CRT. Too bad Sony stop making Trinitron CRTs. They were the best IMO.

I believe they were the best too. 🙂

Colours aren't as nice on the Sony as the Samsung 243T. That's the price you have to pay for slightly faster response time.

The stand on the Sony is my biggest gripe. A monitor of this calibre should pivot!

I have not seen the Samsung so I cannot comment or indeed read any reviews on it so I can't really comment. I love the Sony Stand, but it should pivot, your right. Small price to pay though. Well it wasn't but you know what I mean. 😛

That's gorgeous!

Makes me want a bigger LCD...

Al lot of monet aren't they. Perhaps too expensive!!

Oh ya...

Please tell me you bought the warranty..

Good question. After a little negotiating. The Sony Centre gave me Sony's standard warranty and extended it to 3 years which is okay I suppose which I'm relatively happy with that. 🙂

quick question about the sony monitor (sdb-p234/b)
is there a fan inside cooling the monitor?
I read a reviewed of the previous model (p232) and it said the fan was too noisy?

I have never heared of a monitor with a fan, but perhaps the 23" monitors need them?

Hi,
thanks for posting the pics of the screen. Very nice!

Im actually about to buy the Sony SDM-P234 myself.
But i read a review on cnet, and even tho they give a rather nice score, aparently they dont reccomend it for DVD viewing and gaming! :

Cnet review

this really disapoints me, cause im really in love with this monitor. Anyhow, here is a little part from the review. Do you find this to be true?

it has trouble cleanly displaying the extreme ends of grayscales without inducing unwanted color tints. The Sony P234's backlighting is a little uneven, with light leaks along the top of the display. We found DVD viewing on the P234 disappointing because flesh tones and other large monochrome areas of color are plagued by pixel noise, and fine details are hard to see. To some degree, these flaws are common to all LCDs, even those that share the P234's 16ms pixel response rate. However, some other displays, including the 230W5VS and the Planar PX212M, handle DVD playback with fewer image errors.

And this is their conclusion on the monitor:
The bottom line: The Sony SDM-P234 is a joy to behold unless you're watching a DVD or playing a game.

Anyhow, this is just one of many reviews of this great monitor. Other reviews that i've read are far more positive on the gaming aspect.

I hope u can find time to answer my question.
thanks! 🙂

Light leakage issues across the board in product distribution are rare. Their sample was probably one of the ones at the lower end of the spectrum, unfortunately. I went through half a dozen 243T's before I found one that I believe to be satisfactory!

Cheers!

I had a question for anyone who has one of these monitors. Can you tell me with how it deals with resolutions other than the native resolution? Does it stretch 4:3 content? Is this customizable?

Thanks,

I just bought the Sony SDM-HS94P/B. I'm very pleased. Quite stunned actually at the quality of the image. No bad pixels.

Anybody know the best way to clean these screens? I tried Sony tech support and they tried to sell me a cleaning kit, which consited of a mitten used to wipe keyboards and cameras. A very lame answer. I have yet to find a good way to clean dust, fingerprints, and smudges.

Oh, and I find the native resolution is by far the sharpest (1280x1024).

i've never understood why people buy such huge, expensive monitors when you can buy two high-end 19" monitors for cheaper -- and they provide more screen real estate.

Because your vertical resolution does not increase - only your horizontal and having black borders in the middle of your image totally sucks.

Cheers!

buy one yourself and you will know

I'm waiting for my 21" CRT to kick the bucket but it keeps going and going 😉 Sony G500. Display just like it arrived 5 years ago. I'll wait for the next generation of LCD b4 plugging the trigger. Congratz on that sexy monitor.

Shagga, I'm thinking about getting this monitor but am not sure with something. I read the review posted on this monitor and they said vertical lift of the monitor is limited, is this correct, can it be lifted vertically at all??? The reason I ask is i have a dual screen setup at the moment and would like them to sit around the same height and my speakers need to fit.

Are you still happy with it & are you able to post pics again as the links don't work to the one's you posted.
