Finally got the Dell M1710 notebook with the 7900 Go GTX card. Doing a complete reformat right now and then I plan to test out CSS, Quake 4, BF2 Armored Fury and Oblivion this weekend. I'll try to do some quick comparison against the XTX in my desktop. So far I've clocked the GTX to 630/1500 which isn't quite desktop speeds so I might have to drop the XTX to XT speeds to make it a bit more balanced.

Some pics I took last night (not very good quality):

Heh, nice sig. Hypocrisy at its finest.

Nice laptop too. Too bad its not winter so it could keep you warm. :)

I'll have them hopefully by the end of this weekend if possible - otherwise sometime next week for sure. It does run games at 1920x1200 since that's the panels native resolution ;) The GTX@630/1500 has no problems so far from the limited testing I did handling games at native resolution and it doesn't get hot either - it's at 58C idle right now which is really good for a laptop GPU. During load it gets to around 73C which again isn't much.

Dang Joker, I though you were "extremely biased" so you wouldn't EVER go to the green side.;)

Joking aside, nice laptop, wish I could afford one right now. Are those load temps with the GPU overclocked or stock??

Yep funny thing is I buy more nVidia hardware than I do ATi stuff. ;) Those temps are with the GTX OC'd to 630/1500 which is what makes it really nice. I haven't even bothered cracking open the laptop to add AS5 since it runs so cool as it is. I just finished formatting and adding Quake 4, BF2: Armored Fury, CS:S, HL2 Episode 1, 3dmark05 and 3dmark06. Quick run with 3dmark05 yielded a respectable 9175 points; I think my CPU is holding me back at default resolution since it's only a 1.83 GHz dual core. I'll probably do some runs with 3dmark05 using 4xAA to stress the GPU some more but the real power should show in game benchmarks when I get around to it later this weekend.

Very cool Joker. Interested to hear your thoughts on the performance. I'm always a little jealous of the guy that comes to LAN parties with his fancy laptop. So much easier to haul around and plays games as well or better than most of the desktops there.

Very nice. Though I hate Dell's desktop lineups, their XPS laptop is amazing. What are you planning to do with that beast besides gaming?

I ended up using the 91.31v2's from TweaksRUs. So far they're great, they got a ton of profiles built in and coolbits functionality is already in the panel as well. Highest clock I've achieved with the 7900 Go GTX at this point is 630/1540 so that's what I'll be doing benchmarks with. It might do 635/1560 but the aforementioned clock is good enough. Since that's roughly 20 mhz core and 60 mhz short of a desktop GTX, I'll have to clock the XTX down a bit as well to make it a bit more even although the systems still won't be a true match. The desktop has 2 gb of ram while the laptop only has 1 gig and a completely different type of processor (AMD 4400+ vs Duo 1.83 GHz). Although at high res. the processor doesn't play a huge role so maybe it won't matter as much.

Going to be doing some web page development on it for my business and using it for movies/music etc. Should be a nice system for when I have to go to work and have nothing available to play; I just got DSL at my business so I can game there with low ping now :D

Anyhow, benchmarks should start coming in tomorrow evening although I might take longer if I decide to do a half decent presentation. I did a quick run in HL2 VST when the clocks were at 625/1500 and got 97 fps at 1920x1200 4xAA/16xAF and everything set on high with reflect all. Don't know how the XTX compares against that since I haven't tried that yet but I bet it's fairly close. I'm going to have to drop the laptop's resolution to 1680x1050 when I conduct comparisons since my desktop LCD's native resolution is 1680x1050.

Just picked up two 1 GB sticks from Fry's for $84.99 each + $15.00 rebate per stick. This should help a lot during benchmarks. Haven't had time today to even use the laptop but I will hopefully get around to benchmarking sooner than later.

the source engine is very CPU limited, whatever processor is faster is probably going to win in that bench

Dunno haven't tried gaming on the battery but if I had to guess maybe a 1-1.5 hrs. It does >2hrs on battery when watching a movie. That's without it being overclocked though, I haven't tested with the OC since I don't plan to keep the laptop OC'd beyond benchmarks.
