Looks pretty cool, but I have so many exhust-fans I have to wonder how effective it would actually be at removing heat from my case at all, in fact unless it has one heck of a powerful fan, I bet more air would end up flowing in then out... just somthing to consider before you jump on this... if its quiet, then comparing it to the FX 5800 (aka Dustbuster) pretty much does in any credability you have with me.... I've heard one of those things spool up inside a "sound-insulated" steel case & it still just about drowned out the
"Delta" fans in the case with it... only one of the unfortunates who bought an FX 5800 would even consider the comparision valid.
Having said this, if you have a case with a "normal" number of exhust fans, this is most likley a good choice, as it should help cool the entire system, as well as the video card, which can only be a good thing.

Put it on my office computer's 9800pro ... wow, quiet! I thought the stock cooler was quiet, but this great!

edit: yep, my case temp's dropped by a couple of degrees, not much but a bonus anyway!

With my 8500, I replaced the HSF with a "586" style HS and suspended a low-speed 92mm Panaflo (switched) to blow across the length of the card and out the empty PCI1 slot hole when gaming. 'Twas cheap and effective with both maximum cooling and minimum noise.

This new fangled contraption is not cheap although it is okay relative to a Zalman however it is not silent like a Zalman can be. It also lacks the necessary raised bit to compensate for the difference betwixt the Radeon core and spacer when the thermal tape is removed in favor of thermal compound. Sure, you could use tape again, but without achieving the best potential.

Eh? Do you have one? This VGA coller is surely quieter than any other fan in your case. It obviously fits snugly onto the core of the GPU. BTW, my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro came with silver thermal paste installed, not thermal tape, so it gets as close to the GPU core as did the stock HSF.

I'd also like to put the SVC RAM heatsinks on my card. Will the cooler fit with the RAM heatsinks installed?

It should, it fits my silver OCZ BGA ramsinks, and they look about the same size as the SVC ones
Cool! Thanks for the info! 😀 I've got my stuff on order. Cooler and RamSinks. Will not ship 'till the 21st though... 🙁

I do not. A fan is not quieter than no fan. Fits snug? Happy news. I still contend it does little that you cannot do for free, as opposed to the big-ass Zalman which I do have but am not biased towards simply because of that. Have you guys seen this nifty thing?

No, this Arctic Cooler VGA Cooler will not be totally silent like the Zalman heatpipe.
(although people can't really hear 20dB or less)

Some people are still putting fans on the Zalman heatpipe. Also, the mainadvantage of the Arctic Cooler is it ejects the heat exhaust outside of the case, thereby not only effectively cooling the GPU, but cooling the inside of the case and consequently the CPU itself as well😀

I've had both the Zalman ZM80A-HP and now the Silencer. The Zalman was of course, silent. The Silencer is inaudible on low, and very quiet when on high. Much quieter than the stock HS/F. My system is quiet enough that I can hear my Panaflo L1A exhaust fan when it is running full rpm. It normally runs 50% rpm.

I much prefer the silencer because it is a more solid installation on the card, it ducts the GPU heat directly out of the case, and is inaudible. The Zalman with that top HS put out lots of heat that was right under my NB HS. I'd rather get rid of the heat directly.

That's what food banks are for.

since this voids the warrenty, it is on topic
This is not a topic involving the warranty in any way, this is a topic for those people who have chosen to void their warranty. Please troll elsewhere.

In either case, a computer is at best a luxury item, and not necessary for basic human survival. Food is. Thankfully we have structures in place where needy people don't have to steal their food in order to get this. This is not the case the world over, but is true of most of the western world. Theft is still theft. If someone steals a loaf of bread to feed their starving family, it is still wrong to have stolen. There are mitigating circumstances everywhere. Personally, if I messed up a piece of hardware, I would not return it, I would have to eat the cost of it. The little diatribe of right and wrong is irrelevant to this discussion however. Now, about the ACTUAL topic of discussion here, I too would like to see some benchies. 🙂

Don't have much in the way of benchmarks, but I do know this thing cools way better than the stock cooler. So much better in fact that I flashed my 9800np to an ATI 9800 Pro BIOS, and have no worries about it at all (ok, so I got one of the cards with 2.8ns Samsung RAM awhile back as a non-pro). The core wasn't quite up to 9800 Pro standards, even though the memory was, but with this cooler I've had the core as high as 400Mhz with no artifacts, and it wouldn't quite go to pro speeds (380Mhz core) before the cooling upgrade. Overall, I'm extremely happy with the performance and silence of this cooler. Even though there is a lot of controversy over 3DMark right now, using the same exact hardware with just a BIOS flash; I went from a score right around 5000 to around 5800. Basically, I feel like I upgraded to a 9800 Pro for $30, got some more silence from my PC, and have cooler case temperatures by around 5°C even with the overclock on the video card.

I checked the list of distributors at the arctic cooling website. Apparently SVC is the ONLY US distributor and they are out (or were as of yesterday).

Ok, so I've been getting cocky with my new cooler and have overclocked to 425/750 without any artifacting whatsoever. This cooler is the bomb! If only I could solder on another 128MB of memory, I'd have myself a Radeon 9800XT and then some. The thing is, the card still has some head room to go as well. To say I'm happy with the performance of this cooler is a vast understatement. If you can find one, have PCI1 slot free, and don't mind voiding the manufacturer's warranty; pick one up today!

do u realize that there are people who are unware that this products voids the warrenty right?

How far can you go before you start seeing artifacts? That's a decent increase for just adding the hairdryer solution. 🙂
Could you maybe toss some benchmarks in some common games our way? I'd be interested in seeing if you really can get the 9800XT's performance out of it.

Thing is that it isn't really a hair dryer solution, as it is completely silent. I looked at a recent Firingsquad Catalyst v3.9 article, and I can get numbers as high as theirs in Quake 3. Any game that actually utilizes more than 128MB of texture memory, will ultimately suffer though compared to a 9800XT. My last 3DMark 2003 score is 6,600+, which is a lot better than the 5,700+ my stock overclock to a 9800 Pro could put out. I also ran 3DMark overnight and by morning noticed some minor graphical glitches at the 425/750 speed, but I can still get 9800XT core/memory speeds without any worries. Right now I'm leaving it at stock 9800 Pro speeds though, just because I don't have any games which stress this card anyway. Nice to know I have some head room for HL2 though 😉
