everyone's busy trying to be witty and funny on the forums.

not that that's a bad thing, but sometimes we have to put joking aside...
i dunno, anyone else feel this way?

I agree, it can be tough sometimes. But on the other hand, people come to off-topic to have a good time too. Sometimes you just have to grin and bear it, and ignore the fluff that pops up in otherwise serious threads. It's all in good fun.

It can be a bit tough at times but occasionally you'llsee some serious conversation in OT.

Outise of IT it generally stays pretty serious, but then out side of off topic, your conversation topics are limited to the focus of that forum of course.
 
well, it's not really something that happened to me personally. not like i asked a question, and all i got were goofball answers. in fact, i've gotten a lotta good help from you guys here, and am grateful for that. i think 100% of my questions or problems were solved, so i'm happy 🙂

just in general, i've noticed that some people ask/state something serious, and a lot of the answers are plain silly.

i find them funny too, but when the thread originator states "serious replies only" or it's understood that the topic was serious, a lotta people still ignore it.

i'm not meaning to be a party pooper or anything. just sharing my thoughts on ATOT.
 
I agree with you, too many people try to make a joke out of something.
Once in awhile is ok, but when the same people do it in every thread it gets old and tiresome.
 
don't want to single anyone out...
but if you want examples, it's not hard to find. just randomly choose a thread.
but i think you are right in saying that there are a few who seem to do nothing but nef, but maybe that's just how they really are outside of AT too.

Sorry about the above nef post, but I do see what you're talking about. I thought you meant more casual bad jokes, but you mean the actual useless neffing like &quot;my cat's breath smells like cat food&quot; or the first post in this thread. I agree, but don't expect it to change as more people join and want to rise the ranks of membership.

it depends all on YOU, start a serious thread, and you get serious answers, start a funny thread and you get funny answers

Change the system...lol good one. It took them years to realize that banning ebay was unnecesary, how long do you think it would take them to realize that a post-quantity-based ranking system is a bad idea? I don't forsee them removing all the different rankings anytime soon.

Anyone who comes here seeking answers to critical life, and personal issues, needs to have their head examined. Geez, people, talk to your families and friends, not a bunch of strangers at a BBS.

I disagree Russ. Talking here beats not talking at all. You forget that not eveyone can talk to their family, or their friends for that matter. Try and spend a few hours on a crisis hotline in a city near you, and you will quickly see what I mean.
 
my belief is that there are those that will post serious threads and get serious answers, but sometimes others don't know what to say and post something stupid in lieu of something useful. but then, there are those that make everything a joke too...

my thread on wisdom teeth extraction got all serious replies... i really appreciated that and thanked everyone for their support during my uncertainty.
