It's good having very few materialistic desires.

I gotta say that it feels incredibly good being able to walk into a store to buy a necessity (toilet paper, etc) and look around only to find that you have absolutely no desire to buy anything else. I've already got enough clothes. I've got a decent phone and computer stuff. A reliable car. Good cast iron cookware. A chair. A table. Electricity. Running water. Internet. A place to store and cook food. A nice roomy tent. A really good sleeping bag. Rechargeable batteries. A family of squirrels living above me.

Good thing too because I'm low income, but at least I'm not living above my means and I wouldn't live above my means anyway since my requirements are so low...

Anyone else gotten to this stage where you've pretty much got all the materialistic stuff that you need or desire already?

I don't know what to spend my money on either. I've got all I want right now. I am single. I'm thinking of buying a $1k telescope, even though I'm not crazy about the idea. I just got the idea last night while watching Jupiter with my binoculars.
 
we have everything we need; but two incomes and no children leaves some money to spend on random crap

I buy a lot of gadgets (flashlights, knives, camping stuff), good cigars, and beer

My wife buys a lot of cookbooks and house/kitchen gadgets

 
So what you're saying is getting a college degree didn't do shit to better your quality of life. But I thought we gone through this before. You're really good at shooting photos, you should start an amateur web, put ads in classifies seeking models, shoot pics and earn money.

I didn't realize you could buy them by the family. I've just been getting singles. Or did you have to buy two and mate them? My dealer sells females, but he wants twice as much for them, so I've just stuck to males.

I want a car.

But I have no money, no job, and my parents sure as hell ain't buying me one. Nor will they let me get a job during the school year to save up for one. 😕
 
Just think how well you'd be doing if you'd have taken that job after your internship last year...:roll:

DSLR, motorcycle, random electronics, chicks, social life.... it's not beyond my means.

If I were on a low enough income that "a family of squirrels living above me" made my list of life's satisfactions, I'd try to justify my depression with some Zen BS to keep from killing myself too.
 
It also helps when you know your parents have enough means to pick you up after a major fail.

AAR, I know what you're talking about.

Life with no money and/or responsibility is very easy and appealing if the climate is warm and there's no bad habits or dependents to support.

But again, it's much better/easier when you know there's a safety net.
 
I have expensive tastes... then I look at both my daughters braces and realize I won't be able to buy any nice stuff for a couple of years.

I spent £1250 on a 5D and the 24-105L lense. I've had it for 3months now and I'm going to sell it 😛

As I've gotten older I've gotten more materialistic.

I only go to work for one thing and thats to earn £££. If work did not pay well, f0ck that. I'd pick a job that was more emotionally rewarding. Sure it's great with the guys I work with but I'm paid to do my job.

If your happy, thats great man. I have some cool materialistic stuff but I find I want 'better' stuff 😛

I want a better car, bigger tv (50" is small when you wear glasses, a 70" would be ideal 😀), better sound system (current one is pretty banging imo but I could get floor standing fronts and upgrade them easily), dedicated cinema room (not going to happen in my current house) and thats about it. I have a decent amount of disposable income every month that I save/ invest in stocks.

Bumming around is cool in your 20s but the ground gets alot harder in your 30s. 😉

Especially when you have a wife and two kids in tow.
 
We're all materialistic to an extent, all we can be is to the left or right of the median. I think I'm less interested in it than average. I do think it's nice. It's a great reduction in stress. I do like nice things but typically have no problem avoiding the "need" to buy them.
